took my uncle to the
crow's nest in santa cruz last night. we missed the dinner service because we didn't get there till after 9:30pm+, so we ate bar food upstairs while we people-watched and listened to the band. it was fun! some highlights:
* seeing my seventy year old uncle totally getting into the neo-folk/punk rock sound of
tater famine.

I dunno about the rest of the state but for me the answer is, "When I started having to get up at stupid o' clock on weekdays."

seriously, though, when i was in my 20s and 30s, most restaurants (especially the ones with bars/entertainment) were open until 10pm for dinner service. these days, it seems like 9pm (and even earlier in some cases!) is the "kitchen is closed" time. i don't get it. are the 20 and 30 year old adults of today no longer dining out? what's changed to make restaurants close earlier than they used to?
also, i was raised by a european (scottish) mother. we always ate supper much later than my all-american friends. since i no longer have a husband who MUST eat by 6:30pm, i've gone back to eating a late(r) supper, which seems more natural to me. my girls don't mind it either; in fact, they seem more in tune with late evening dining. we rarely eat before 8pm.
