Katsucon does have a tendency of redeeming itself, at least for me. There have been years when I wonder why I bothered to go, which were followed by years that were wall-to-wall awesome.

I think I reflect on that cycle of sheer apathy to awesomeness with Katsucon as well. I think it was like that for 2005, where it was plainly too cold to even bother doing the trek between the two hotels in Crystal City. Then 2006 was somewhat of a decent first year at the Omni Shoreham, with 2007 being a marked improvement, and 2008...well, I was sorta trying to find reasons to get more money together to go the other con I had been wanting to go during that same time period (Gallifrey in LA, which never panned out).

I missed out on 2009 due to Katsu being back at Crystal City and me not wanting to bother anyway (cf. parenthetical about Gallifrey above) and when I went to Gaylord earlier this year, let's just after the worst multi-day blizzard in the region in however many years, I really wasn't feeling up to being in the middle of nowhere along the banks of the Potomac.

Yeah, 2011 may as well yet be awesome, but I'm still not quite convinced...I think...

I think 2009 has been the only good year for me and Katuscon, so it may be that I take a year off from Katsucon. Also, after the past couple days I may force myself away from conventions next year or from staffing them.
