thoughts on mpreg

I'm a huge fan of mpreg, but man do I hate reading it and feeling like I came back from a pro-life rally. I sometimes wish that the choice to carry a child, in mpreg, was one of...wow...I'm not sure why it happened, but okay. I want to do this. Instead of the sense that parenthood will happen because of a moral reaction against "baby-killing ( Read more... )

I've... only recently publicly gotten on the mpreg train. (Emphasis on publicly.) But, yes, I agree about the re: pro-life rally thing, and word on everything else you said.

I was reading an XMFC fic where one of the characters got knocked-up after they split, and the other came back afterwards to claim the children, and when character 1 was considering abortion, character 2 was all "D< HOW DARE YOU CONSIDER KILLING MY CHILDREN." I'm like, geez, author, I know XMFC is set in the 1960s, but we don't live then, and maybe you could be a little more delicate about the subject? Or write a disclaimer for people ( ... )

Yes, the birth control thing is frustrating too. Especially when the mpreg (or regular preg) is a known variable. Use condoms, peeps, if you dun want kids. Or the discussion of whether to have kids altogether.

I guess I never really get the "pro-life" message in mpreg fics. I admit that there a lot of horribly written mpreg fics out there, where the mpreg element is probably the MOST realistic thing about them, but it doesn't bother me too much other than to hope that people would write more good mpregs ( ... )

I do understand the dichotomy of being pro-choice and not wanting that choice for yourself, ever. I've had that choice, myself. I've gotten pregnant without intention and had that choice in front of me. Actually, before facing the decision, I was sure I'd have an abortion. But, when I got pregnant, I just couldn't. I actually decided early in my pregnancy to make a decision irrelevant of anyone else's feelings but my own and chose to have my daughter.

The problem I tend to see in certain fic is the pregnant person might, say, decide to have an abortion at first...and then someone is all "oh noes, the baby" (and it's usually still an embryo at that point, very rarely a fetus) and the person doesn't decide to have the baby because they want the baby, but because of not wanting to "kill" their child.

I'd like it if more fics have the person...say, I don't know and think about whether they want children and then make the choice to have a child not decide to not kill a baby. Do you get the distinction I'm trying to get across? I'm not ( ... )

Maybe because you have personal experience you are slightly more sensitive to this issue than I am even though we seem to be in complete agreement in principle? It would piss me off if I felt that people saw abortion as "evil," but I'm pretty sure I've read many of the same mpreg fics you have and just didn't interpret them the same way. I think that in a way the ubiquity of bad writing in the mpreg genre allows for this. Because the fic isn't very realistic or nuanced in general and requires the reader to use a lot of imagination, I probably choose to imagine that an objection to the abortion is a personal one rather than a moralistic one. I can sympathize with the non-pregnant partner not wanting their offspring aborted, even though on a moral level I don't think they have the right to make the choice and I guess that's usually what I see ( ... )

I ranted a while ago (years? probably) that I'd like more 'deliberate' mpreg.

What I'd really like to write, if I ever wrote mpreg, would be Lex Luthor. That man wants babies. If he could bare his own, he'd be all up in that shit. He'd be all over Clark (or Superman), putting holes in condoms, replacing his birthcontrol with sugarpills, getting fertility injections so he'd have a litter. You know it.

"Oh, Clark, I don't know how it happened," innocent eyes, "but it appears I'm pregnant with your babies!"

"Babies?"

"Yes, twelve of them! Isn't it wonderful?"

Lex would be all cartoon-big-eyes and Clark would faint and suddenly realise he has an appointment in the andromeda galaxy. For 20 years.

I almost did an mpreg fic but we decided on not to go along with it. This girl that housed one of the main characters wanted him to spill the beans that he was sleeping with her friend and gave him a fruit. When he ate it, she was like....... "OMG YOU ATE A UTERUS FRUIT! YOU BETTER GO TELL HIM!"
And he was all.... "OH NOES!..........WAIT!"

We wondered if the fruit actually was a uterus fruit and decided against it cause it wouldn't flow with the rest of the story.

That's the only thing close that we've come to mpreg.
