I think that in some cases the disntinction you make between wanting a child and not wanting to kill a baby is important, but I think in other cases the line is blurred. For example if the person feels a special desire/connection to the pregnancy for some reason (not having thought about children but wanting them is one example, but in mpreg fics it is often that the unborn child is a representation of the connection to the pregnant partner, which is normally tenuous or somewhat unrequited . . . so the baby is more a representation of the "forced together by outside circumstances aka. aliens made them do it" trope than a real baby anyhow).
I like the idea of dealing with issues seriously as well. But I have a pretty heavy kink for realism as well and acknowledge that not everyone has the dual mpreg/realism kinks you and I seem to share. Clearly quite a lot of people have the mpreg/melodrama kind of kink structure instead. I guess I can't begrudge those guys what clearly floats their boat. I try to make my mpreg fics as realistic as I can, but that's pretty much all I can do.
