This is lovely. It never occurred to me how astonishing Jonas would have found the number of countries on Earth, or the diversity of climate and culture. I love the way you said so much about Sam and Teal'c while saying so little. Very elegant!

This is actually part of my fanwank for why so many of the planets they visit through the gate are monocultures or at most have two or three competing parties...they're colonies, started by the Goa'uld and for at least part of their history the Goa'uld kept their population low and controllable. And of course the number of things there are to learn for anyone who isn't familiar with a culture are enormous!

Great look at Jonas's first reactions to life on Earth. I think Jonas's reaction to coffee was similar to my own. :)

I believe that scene wound up in the fic because we see Jonas drinking tea in S7 (it's been kicking around on my hard drive for a while). But the attitude is definitely borrowed from my husband, who thinks that coffee is vile and that people have to acquire a taste for it. I'm a bit skeptical- I'm sure there must be people who like coffee right away, but it's true that I learned to like it as a teenager, so I have to assume that many people do have to acquire the taste.

Haha, I originally thought that coffee was awful, but then I was in college and I needed caffeine and Starbucks had just expanded into my area and I discovered flavored lattes...
