Ok! So Yuletide reveals went up awhile ago, but I was in Florida, and then I was here but not really online because I was having a really random QaF fannish relapse,* so. I don't even know what that was about. *hands

I've been thinking about that character type since we discussed this, and trying to think of examples, but you're right, there just aren't any, except maybe on soap operas. But soaps always had a broader range of female character types than any other genre, because they're "women's TV" and they don't count.
There really aren't - there are characters who come close, but there's almost always that element of *punishment* or they're a...villain is strong, but an antagonist. (And sometimes they *are* a villain, of course.) Which is not to say that a female character who fit these characters would be *likeable.* She wouldn't, at least most of the time. But male characters who are like this, while not always being likeable, tend to be *liked,* if that makes sense.
I'm not familiar enough with soap operas to really know, but that's really interesting, actually. Hmmmmm.
Soaps are *really* interesting in terms of range of female character types and female sexuality that they show. I bet there have been studies! I kind of want to go looking now.
The only soap I ever watched was Dark Shadows, and that show was older and from what I remember it had...well, Angelique, but Angelique is basically Darla, so. Obviously I adored her, but she was pretty much unquestionably a villain.
I'm sure there are studies! I think I've seen some of them. I probably actually have essays on that subject in some of my books from grad school. I'm going to check.
