Thanks to lycomingst for the bear hug! <3

So inlovewithnight and cidercupcakes made these lists of all their fictional narrative/storytelling kinks. And then we talked about it today and I said I would make mine. So I, uh, did that.

In which redbrickrose's narrative kinks surprise exactly no one. I stopped at 30 because that seemed like a good number, but I probably could have kept going. )

Yeah, I had to dig it out and find that scene while I was writing this. I feel like SO MANY of my narrative buttons can be traced directly back to Lestat.

Yeah, the first time I read Interview and TVL I was...maybe 10? They are among THE formative texts of my life and wow THAT EXPLAINS SO MUCH.

(Truest of true embarrassing fax, though: for years they were the only texts I had access to that treated sexuality in a way that made intuitive sense to me because of the casual bisexuality of all of the characters. When that is a true statement you probably have a problem /o\)

OH MAN ONE DAY WE MUST DISCUSS LESTAT. <3

6) Villains in love with each other.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

23) Cidercupcakes said "Rough sex between characters who are completely in love with each other." Yes, yes, yes, but also

24) hate!sex

HI I APPROVE OF YOUR MESSAGE AND WOULD LIKE TO SIGN UP FOR YOUR NEWSLETTER.

8) Antagonistic ships where the two people involved used to be good friends and had a falling out, or where they have some kind of deeper connection that draws them together. Or both. It can be antagonistic because they're on opposite "sides" (of whatever) but that's not necessary. For example, I would put Angel/Spike in this category, but I definitely ship them harder when they're both souled and *trying* to work together and just not liking it very much.

OKAY SEE, this is why you have to join me in Alt-Country fandom because Jeff Tweedy/Jay Farrar IS THIS THING RIGHT HERE. *tempts*

I hope the sight continues working! Also NBC will have a lot of streaming stuff on their website. \OLYMPICS/

LESTAT VERY NEARLY RUINED ME FOR ALL OTHER FICTIONAL CHARACTERS, TRUE FAX.

Well, if you're ever trying to tempt me into a fandom, using things from this list would be the way to do it. :)

Your specific kinks and your Lestat thing too.

Yeah... it's so true. There is every other fictional character I have ever loved and then there is Lestat. IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CATEGORY.

I so still need to do this, and a part of me keeps wondering if mine is going to end up being a mish-mash or other people's lists. :|

I was pretty afraid that was going to happen too.

Also siblings with a really super intense you-and-me-against-the-world (PLATONIC) connection.

Oh god yes. That is the only thing that got me sitting through three seasons of Supernatural before my deep hatred of everything ELSE the show is screwed me over too much.

Evenly matched comrades in arms/partners in crime with complete respect for each other's abilities - again, *especially* in m/f dynamics where the characters are either equally competent or equally faily

I think we have already had this conversation! So I won't go on again :D

On the flip side, worthy adversaries! Especially when they have sexual tension (and complete respect for each other's abilities).

Oh man, yes. This is what I really missed in bandom, coming from the little manga fandoms I messed around in immediately before. There could be awesome professional rivalry kink in music RPS, but I've never seen it; I guess the RPS thing makes us too anxious about vilifying real people or friendships.

It is why I still watch SPN even when it leaves me shrieking in rage at my television.

We did, but oh man, I love it. I am so happy Z appeared on the bandom scene, because I'm not sure what my bandom involvement would have looked like if I hadn't had The Like (and Z's friendship with Ryan) to refocus some of it.

I think that's really part of it - especially in a non au fic, I think writers are hesitant to villify anyone. And rightly so, actually. But oh man, professional rivalry kink fic would be AMAZING.

But I think my favourite is the subtrope, enemies forced to work together - especially if there's been a betrayal immediately beforehand, Oh yes. And I guess Angel/Spike kind of fit that too now that I'm ( ... )

I really agree. I haven't been feeling tragic about the rest of bandom, but these new girls and Z&Ryan are pretty much the only part actively making me happy.

But oh man, professional rivalry kink fic would be AMAZING.

Especially if it could be tightly focused on the music, rather than on the fame or success, so that it's really closely allied to the sports rivalry trope. It must be possible.

I definitely think about that too and I both do and don't want to see fic about it. It would be GREAT if done, really, really well but it also makes me sad.

It doesn't even necessarily have to be angsty. Maybe Ryan's happy that the songs are living on live! Or maybe he never wants to hear any of them again! I don't know, just, I really want it explored.

I don't know if I'm feeling tragic necessarily (except occasionally still about the Panic split /o\) but I am kind of 'eh' about it and The Like and Ryan&Z are definitely what's keeping me here. (Well, and Cobra Starship, of course).

I automatically go to a super angsty place in my head, because that's just how I roll, but you're right that it doesn't have to be. I think it would be most interesting if it's kind of somewhere in the middle, you know? Ryan maybe doesn't *want* to play those songs anymore (especially the ones off Fever), but there are still layers of tension and possessiveness and weirdness ( ... )
