I went to the botanical gardens today and when I walked into the desert section, the feel of the dry air on my skin and the sight of a cactus made me tear up, I kid you not. I miss New Mexico at Christmas so, so much, there aren't even words. I was in NOLA for years, it is true, but for most of that time I got to go to New Mexico for Christmas. ( Read more... )

What was the Ryan question? Maybe I didn't get that far, because I don't remember it.

I made a bit of a face at how they handled the Brent question, though.

They don't really read or answer it. It's at the very beginning - seriously about thirty seconds in - when Brendon reacts really viscerally to one of the questions and Zack comes over to ask what happened and you can hear Brendon whisper the question to him. The question was "where's Ryan, I need some coke." I don't think Brendon handled it *badly* or anything because he just kind of moved on, but I just had this reaction of "wow, I can't watch this. Okay! Good to know."

I think it was the Brent question when I really shut it down though, because yeah. Do not talk to me about ex-band members AT ALL, patd, plzkthnx.

Oh, argh, really? I remember him whispering to Zack, but I didn't hear the question. Ugh.

Also: I'm sorry you're homesick! Costa Rica made me pretty homesick for the area I grew up in, a few times, because it's like the ultimate expression of what my hometown only wishes it could be, if everything was more - more rain, more green, more banana trees, more laid back, but all so similar.

I'd read that "the Ryan question" was at the beginning on one of the comms, so I knew to listen for it. But yeah. :/ *sighsigh* Being even slightly less overinvested in PatD/TYV would be such a healthy thing; I wish I could manage it.

Thanks, bb. It's okay. Most of the time it doesn't bother me; it's just this time of year.

Urgh, that question. :(

I'm sorry you're feeling homesick! Those holiday parties sound fun, though. And cake! I have been absolutely CRAVING fruitcake lately, sadly have not been able to lay my hands on any. But anyway, cake's always good. Always.

I know. :( Why do I care so much why?

It's okay! It'll be good once I'm with my family, even if it isn't where I grew up.

And yeah, the parties were great. My graduate department can throw a party, I'll give them that. :)

I did miss you! It's true!

The desert must be so pretty when it's in bloom.

I missed you guys too!

I just like it at this time of year. I don't like the cold, but I like it in northern New Mexico when it snows and there are luminarias on all the buildings and lights on all the trees - which are either evergreen or empty by this point. It's just so pretty. NOLA was pretty this time of year too, and I miss it as well, but I think a huge part of it is that I was always so used to going to NM for the holidays.
