Stolen from lots of people:

Comment here and ask me ANYTHING about any fandom I'm involved in/have been involved in. Controversial or innocent, silly or serious, ask and you'll get my honest opinion on the subject [to the best of my knowledge/ability].

General fandom questions are also allowed, but nothing about actual people IN fandom, please.

Compare your love for the following fandoms to a genre of music:

Buffy/Angelverse

SPN

Bandom

For example, Fod claims she has a "Celine Dionne" kind of love for Harry Potter. I...don't ask for details.

Jossverse totally is a musical. It's a big gay Andrew Lloyd Webber rock opera. *G*

Good answers!!

Probably Buffyverse if we're talking about soul-ownage. It was my first participatory fandom. I watched the show all along, but didn't get into the fandom until . . . AtS s5, actually, so not until BtVS was over. I'd been lurking before that (since the beginning of s7) but I didn't have an lj or anything. I was intrigued by Spuffy and I was primed for a new pop culture obsession when I got into Buffy, so I can't pick a favorite moment, it just kind of happened. I met most of my lj friends through Buffyverse and so I imagine it will always be my most important fandom because it was my formative one.

That said, bandom is my current love. I'm not gonna lie. It makes me stupidly giddy ALL THE TIME.

BSG is awesome, and probably my favorite show right now, but I'm really only tangentially interested in the fandom.

What fandom have you had the most fun in and why?

Probably BtVS, because that was really my most active fandom and that's where I met most of my fandom friends. I was monofannish back then and I knew all of its nuances and I felt the most *involved.* That said, bandom's a kick. It really, really is, and I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being a contender for this title.

If you've read BtVS S8, what did you think?

If you didn't, then what do you think a non-human from a fan source would make of fandom? For instance, if you pick BtVS or AtS what would Anya, the First, or Illyria make of fandom? In BSG, what would a Ceylon make of it? You can answer this question with any fandom that has a character that didn't start out human.

I have not read BtVS s8, but I have read the first volume of Angel: After the Fall. I liked it so far. I am hesitant about calling the comics canon, so I am reserving judgment, but so far I am cautiously optimistic.

I think both Anya and Illyria would be a little bewildered by fandom given the ways they are both overly literal. Illyria would probably dismiss it as not worth her time, though. Anya would spend more time trying to figure it out, but would be very confused, especially by RPS. Because here are all these stories about real people! But they're not true. So where are people getting this? She would be less weirded out by media fandom once she got the hang of it, but she would probably assume it was mostly about porn.

Whether I consider the comics canon pretty much depends on whether I like the story developments.

Anya would spend more time trying to figure it out, but would be very confused, especially by RPS. Because here are all these stories about real people! But they're not true.

LOL, I can imagine Anya reacting like that. Good point on how the non-humans would take things over literally.

Most of my opinions on whether the comics are canon are pretty academic and all wrapped up in how I feel about authorial intention and what constitutes authorial intention and what happens to a text when there's a drastic change in medium, etc. However, the fact that Angel: AtF is the planned AtS s6 does change things for me. I'm willing to consider them canon, I guess. I don't really feel that strongly about it either way.

Hee. Anya would totally react like that. She just would not understand people making up all these stories.

Will you ever write Spike/Angel fic again?

Sure. Someday I might even write it *well* again. Today is not that day. redbrickrose December 10 2007, 06:19:18 UTC
