I just had an idea. is there a community college in your town? (I can't remember where you live.) why not ask the japanese professor if you can sit in on two classes per level (201, 301, 401) and see which class you are best in? That would give you an idea of your Japanese level, so you could get tested right? Or you could ask to take the Japenese placement test at the community college and whichever one you place into, you take that level of test?

Would that work?

Lawl, I wish. We don't even have Japanese classes anywhere near where I live. =\ I'd have to go to the University of Michigan or Michigan State to do that, and I pretty much guarantee big name colleges like that won't let me sit in. Then again... It's worth a shot! Maybe I'll make a few calls. Good suggestion~

I KNOOOOOW ;_; I read it on ANN and I was like, WHAT. That man was a genius and a half. I only have Millennium Actress and Tokyo Godfathers (the latter of which is, like, my favorite movie of ever), but now I'm just sad we'll never see any more of his brilliance on screen. I hear he was working on a new movie just before he passed away, too. Poor man. He was so YOUNG. =(

It is tragic that some of the big names in Japanese anime/manga are dying young. People like the following
Kaoru Kurimoto (cancer)
Kaoru Tada (hit her head badly)
Ritsuko Okazaki (septic shock)
Shiho Niyama (pneumonia)
Kaneto Shiozawa (fell on stairs and hit his head)
Gunpei Yokoi (hit by two cars)

There might be more I'm not aware of.
