I felt the same way you did, but started on a downward spiral in high school after the intensely tragic experience of hearing a recording of myself singing. After a couple of more years, I came to the realization that my musical talent lies entirely in the area of listening to music.

A voice recorded can sound different than if you perform live.

My biggest problem is I can't play something and sing something completely different. I have ear problems catching two different sounds at once.

I've never been able to understand how someone could sing and play at the same time; good for those that can! As for my voice, I've been assured it's better than I think it is, but I do believe it's safe to assume I never had much a future in the cut-throat music industry.

Well, I have never heard your voice, so I will have to take your word on that.

I was soprano all through middle school and then mezzo soprano in high school (also known as second soprano), so I had melody 90% of the time. In college the professor, who ironically was married my old high school teacher and quite the opposite, thought I would be better as an alto. Musically, college was a pain in my @$$.
