In the end, it took 8 hours to get Emma to the emergency vet and then seen/treated. They gave her an antibiotic, anti-nausea, and saline injection after I said I'd book an appointment with her regular vet ASAP to do a bunch of needed follow-up bloodwork.

Today is Emma's seventeenth birthday!

I don't actually know when she was born, but it was sometime around right now. At that time back in 2004, I was an Assistant Coach for a junior rowing program in Arizona. One day, one of the rowers showed up and said, "Does anyone want a KITTEN?!?!?!"

I. The other day, I came into the bedroom where we have a dish with a heat pad set up for Emma to sleep in. She basically lives in it in the wintertime. This time, she had pawed off the blanket that is usually on top of the heat pad, and was curled up directly on the heat pad.

A friend drove us out to the 17-mile vet, the closest veterinarian that's accepting patients. The vet was kind enough to come outside and chat in person. She'd gotten the records from the emergency vet and said she had a hypothesis, that Emma's troubles could stem from thyroid issues.

S is back! We were able to sit > 6 feet apart outside and see and hear each other directly, and even got to split a beer.

He is going to stay in Princess TinyHouse for his 14-day quarantine, and so far he reports that TinyHouse is bigger than the roomette on Amtrak, so that's something, I suppose. We've arranged for a cleaning protocol so he can ( Read more... )
