Yesterday, Sara and I packed up virtually all of our earthly possessions -- everything from our furniture, to our books and clothes, to cleaning supplies, to Sable's ashes -- into a BIG, ten-foot moving truck. (We did this with almost no help from anyone else, and still finished in time to watch General Hospital at 1! Go us!) Today, we set out to drive that truck over streets, highways, and interstates, approximately 400 miles into a different state.
Well, we both survived unharmed, and we're certainly glad it's over with, but the drive was an incredibly stressful, nerve-racking experience. Visibility in that truck was so much worse than I'd expected, and pretty much every time I had to even change lanes, I kept expecting to hear the crunch of smashing into another vehicle. It might take a while for Sara and me to get back confidence in our driving skills. We turn the truck in tomorrow morning, and I will be SO happy to see the last of it!
The first night in a new place is always hard, and tonight is no exception. Ordinarily, you couldn't pay me enough to live in my Mom's house, but right now, in this bare, quiet, lonely apartment full of boxes, I'm homesick for it. I know this will pass and we'll unpack and this place will feel like home, but right now, I miss having more family members and old, familiar things around me, and Star Trek playing on TV. We slept on Mom's couch last night and watched the episode "Rascals." It was priceless!
