*applauds*

*looks around nervously* ...Uh, why is no one clapping with me?

Convincing insight on two of the most easily dislikeable females in fandom (by the less literate of minds, mind you - I was one of them). I was rightly confused as to why Shirley did a 180 from wanting to turn Lelouch in to scouting people into her "Give Lelouch Happiness" posse. I guess "Nothing is unforgivable" was the answer. That was a beautiful scene, and I wish the below par animation hadn't killed it for me x__x. Ah... I marathoned six episodes in one seating; don't yell at me for noticing insignificant things like this.

And of course... Euphemia's self-hatred and failure to make it in the end are beautiful things <3. Goes without saying, I'm veryvery happy to see females who play such pivotal roles (while the males run around and do the dirty work LOL) in this fandom unlike, uh, that other fandom ( ... )

Hey, thank you for taking your time to read this train-wreck. XD And I know, I needed to write this exactly because they are so disliked and I was very tired of the superficial take some fans have on them. People love Geass' cynicism, but they tend to forget that the cynicism would be dull if there was not hope to contrast with all the doom. Gass loves its contrasts: crackXdrama, girly soap operaX testos mecha fights, the world sucks X the world is beautiful, and so on and so forth. XD

I knew you would complain about the art. How many times have I told you this? Abandon all hope: GEASS IS UGLY. XDDD

And I'm very glad you like Shirley a little better now. I think she can use some love.

Haha, glad to see that you typed this up and laid it out so clearly, too! Thanks.

I think that "everything can be forgiven" is a great way of encapsulating so much of Shirley. And despite my personal feelings regarding her type of love, I can now recognize it for something subjectively beautiful. I do like her, and I guess what drew me to her is that she is so damned honest all the time. She wanted to make Lelouch like her so much, but she wasn't going to compromise her own identity to make that happen. She will continue to be her own Shirley, and Lelouch will eventually like her for who she is, goshdarnit ( ... )

lol. You've made me do this. XD Our discussion on your journal made me obsess about them really badly.

I love the way Shirley ended. I think canon was very nice to her. And as usual, Sunrise surprises us with their 180 turns when it comes to make us believe they messed up a plot for good, and then show us how brilliant they are with a few, well chosen lines. I love Geass text so much it is painful. ;__;

Love your image about Euphemia and Suzaku. Yes, I totally agree with what you say.

They are very oppressed by their status in society, aren't they? Euphie was too high and untouchable, Suzaku was too low and worthless. I also think that the huge difference between them was that Suzaku was always running from himself while all Euphemia ever wanted was to be herself, but nobody would recognize her as such. She had to fight and compromise, over and over again, and that was never enough for the people she loved the most. Very tragic, if you ask me. :)

And yet that tragedy was still so beautiful. Because despite how she wasn't allowed to break free of her role, she still loved and loved and loved boundlessly--for Suzaku, for Zero, for her people, and for the Japanese, all of whom could legitimately be called her captors.

After I finished reading this post, my first impression is that your words make it feel even more beautiful. I never have such insights about Euphemia. She's not someone I'll pay attention to. Well, there're a lot of characters ady grab my attention. As for Shirley, I started to think after she dead (so late I realize...). You say exactly the same to what I think.

I read your latest post about episode 14 also. Just wanna tell you you has a great insights and writing skills. Yea, last thing, it's about Lelouch. I completely agree with you that you say it's his natural. Haha, this morning I keep on telling my bro it's his automatic thought.

I'm glad you enjoyed that. People tend to be very unfair to the two of them, imo. So since they are dead, I took the opportunity to talk about them. It's my personal opinion that no Geass character is a "plot device". They are too well developed for that and Sunrise seems to know what they are doing. All we need is to pay attention to them a little more. The clues are all there.

And hey, thanks. I love speculating. Even when I'm proved wrong in the next episode. XD

Man, I thought this was fantastic. Geass has officially screwed my mind.
So well written... I wouldn't have realized Euphemia's motives if it had not been laid out before me in plain, written text.
Why yes, I am thick sometimes.
After that 'Lelouch is Zero!' revelation and 'Zero killed father!', I was surprised that Shirley would be still harbour feelings towards Lelouch. Still, that dying scene was heart-wrenching. I bawled, seriously.
I've always though Euphemia was a rather beautiful character, and I was rather upset when she died. That death-scene seemed a little twisted to me, considering the 'Suzaku-Euphemia-Lelouch' dilemma.
Once again, I say that your post has opened up my eyes about to two tragic heroines in the series, and I thank you. Your writing is excellent, and the portrayal of the characters is mind-blowing. -thumbs up- GOOD JOB!
