Oh those are gorgeous!! Your finished product reminds me strongly of Celtic knots and I have always had a major weakness for Celtic knotwork! Your family may not get it, but I do.
(I make jewelry as a hobby and sometimes I sell it at fairs and such, so I get the creative impulse. One of these days I may try this out...I wonder if I could do it with wire...)
Thank you! It's rare to find someone who gets me on this! The website I mentioned does include a few Celtic knots! I think it has a heart knot and a Tree of Life knot, among others.
I think you could do it with wire! Maybe something a quite pliable but a bit thick in diameter...?
That's really impressive, actually - I'm always impressed by/envious of people who are good with crafts. I'm terrible with these sorts of things and never have the proper amount of patience for it. When I was in my surgical clerkship we had to learn suture, which has a lot of knot-tying in it, and I never got it right. It really sucked. Everyone in my group eventually learned to do suture and I never did. So I'd bet you'd be good at that, in case anyone ever asks you again what it's for!
Thank you very much! It is quite challenging. I am into crafts but rarely practice, so I have a handful of hobbies, all of which I am not good at :( But self-discipline is something I'm working on this year....
That must have been difficult D: Did you also have trouble with the amount of pressure you exerted with your hands when you were learning suture? I often smoosh the knots because I pull too tight in some areas, and I imagine you have to be a hundred times more cautious when you're dealing with patients.
I have never done suture on a real patient (I'm a neurologist, I'm talking back to my surgical clerkship) - we practiced with surgical suture on sponges and pieces of cloth. In response to your question, ha! I never even got to the point where I made proper knots. I never got the proper way to weave the suture, it was a very humbling experience. I'm bad with that sort of thing, I bet you would have rocked it.
