Um, hi, guys. This might be a sore subject, and I understand if you'd rather not answer, but... I was wondering if anyone would mind sharing what their death penalties were like. I'm trying to figure something out.

[Well, he can always spare an answer for someone trying to figure something out...]

What exactly would you like to know about it?

A friend of mine has a death penalty, but... well, we're not entirely sure what it is. I think he's lost some memories, but I wanted to see if it's happened to other people before making a conclusion.

Ahhh. [softly.

But his tone is matter-of-fact] It might be hard to narrow down. I've heard of memory-loss being the case, before. Memories of home, memories of one person, memories that fall within a certain timeframe...

But just as often, penalties are physical. [......] I lost the use of my left arm. But my memories weren't affected.

I see... That might be it, then. I just wasn't sure if he was a different person altogether.

I don't seem to have one, actually. Must be my lucky day, hm?

[Poor Jack still has not discovered his yet.]

You mean... you died, but didn't get a penalty? Is that possible?

Not probable, is it? But it would seem I'm livin' proof! No death penalty, me!

How do you know it's not... well, something you've forgotten?

[Remember this knight? He's in the library, and he's simply browsing the selection while wandering through the building. Which is going to no doubt bring him walking towards Marica, even if he doesn't realize it just yet.

And this time there are no trashcans!]

[-- OH CRAP. She'd recognize this guy anywhere. She ducks into an aisle and hopes he hasn't seen her yet. And that he won't be looking down her aisle. Sure, she knows now that he probably wouldn't arrest her, but... talk about embarrassing.]

[He's not finding a book that interests him, so he just keeps on looking through the aisles. And lo and behold, he's going to be approaching the aisle that Marica went and ducked into. Slowly (because he has to look at the books), but surely.]

[Edging edging edging away and straight into a stool. DFKG:EJDHGBHNB]

Ack! [The end of the aisle is so close! Speeding up!]

[Forgive him and his hiding from the camera, he is guarded by nature.]

'Figure out' what? Why?

[Marica's a bit surprised by the written comment, but she'll write right back.]

Well, my friend seems not to know someone he should know and I think it might be his death penalty. I wanted to know if anyone else has had this happen too or if there might be a pattern to what kind of penalties are given.

'Taken' would be more accurate. A memory would not be surprising. It is never a trivial price. I lost pain.

[Which happens to be why he's hiding any identifying information. Don't want that spread around.]

You mean the ability to feel pain? Was that a very important thing to you?

My death penalty was the loss of certain magic, but I got that reversed.

What are you trying to figure out?

I'm trying to see if other people have lost memories as their penalties, or if they know if it's possible. I'm not sure if a friend of mine has lost their memories of a person, or if they never knew her to begin with...

And um, could I ask about getting your penalty reversed? You talked to that John guy, right?

[Voice] heavenslament March 27 2011, 01:24:43 UTC
Yes, I did. I told him my penalty and was taken a few days later, much like any other kidnapping. When I was returned three days later, my penalty was gone...though it took a while to control all the magic I regained.

I'm not sure how it works with memories, but...it's worth a try, asking.

Yes, you're probably right about that. So that's all we have to do? Ask? And there's no crazy experimenting or anything involved in there.
