This evening, I began reading Jessica Day George’s Dragon Slippers. I was more than a hundred pages into the hardback when I began feeling increasingly uncomfortable déjà vu. Thanks! Dragon Slippers was recommended to my daughter, and she stopped after a few chapters and just said she didn't like it; from your description I can see why. She prefers light-hearted fantasy (like me, I suppose) and she's struggling to find books that don't get too scary or intense. I'll look at Tuesdays in the Castle.

I can also recommend Jinx by Sage Blackwood. It just, a couple of days ago, came out in paperback. It does take place in a forest where monsters try to eat you all the time, but I never found that as scary or intense, just humorous (as it was meant to be, I believe). Quite lighthearted.
