Fascist Islamic radicals riot in Lebanon, burn another Danish embassy

Feb 05, 2006 21:57

As the saying goes, "once is chance, twice is coincidence and three times is enemy action".
BEIRUT, Lebanon - Muslim rage over caricatures of the prophet Muhammad grew increasingly violent Sunday as thousands of rampaging protesters - undaunted by tear gas and water cannons - torched the Danish mission and ransacked a Christian neighborhood. At ( Read more... )

No one should be surprised that the most offensive images are fakes produced by a radical cleric bent on fanning anti-western hatred.
The ones I saw were underwhelming. I wonder if they're the right ones?

Three that I have seen that have been called fake show Muhammed with a pig snouth, being a child molester and a Muslim being humped by a dog as he bends over in prayer.

Certainly more provoking that the ones actually drawn by Danish cartoonists!

They used to say that when you attacked a nation's embassy, it was an act of war. At least they used to, until Jimmy got elected president and Islamic hordes found out they had carte blanche.

Odd, people used to say the same thing when you engaged in covert ops to supplant a democratically elected government and replace it with a brutal dictatorship. Odd, Jimmy did that too, thus provoking the act of war you describe.

When did Jimmy try to replace a government with a dictatorship?

Once again with the collateral damage! Now Austria and Slovakia have reason to be upset ...

And I honestly don't know if it's lack of consideration ... or maybe too much consideration for how many others they might offend in doing so. All I know is, I'm getting more worried by the day.

I feel like an idiot for asking this one, but where are the actual comics that started this whole thing? I think its just the college bubble I live in which means I havent seen them. I read cnn.com every two days or so (and Im trying to do better)

I'm not sure is these are definitely the exact ones, but it_gurl posted this link to Michelle Malkin's blog where she posts some cartoons. I'm not going to apologize for Islamofacists or for radical nutcases of any religion, but the ire is over mostly (from what I understand) actual depictions being made of their prophet which they consider sacrilegious. However, some of the cartoons I've seen would be offensive to a Christian if it was Jesus Christ in the picture as opposed to Mohammed.

I guess Im one of thoese people that says something will offened every one, so every one has to suck it up at points. I can easily see wht these are offensive, they are making gross generalzations of a group. I also find this very interesting after reading The World is Flat. It mentions how Muslim leaders need to step up and stop radcials from becoming the face of their religon, which it is looking like they are clearly failing at.
Now that I've seen them I can see both sides of it I see both sides of the arguments.

thanks for the link!

Michele Malkin has a great running commentary on this. I also have posted the cartoons a couple of times. They should be in a "freedom of speech" tagged post.

an interesting note. mikeijames February 6 2006, 16:36:43 UTC
it's good to see how all of those democratic reforms the president praised last year in countries like lebanon have solved the terrorist problems he said they would.
