Well, it's not merely a matter of "pay the bill and they'll reconnect me". The reason it got disconnected is that they want the gas facility moved away from the sewer. Most people in Israel don't have central gas. We have a little facility with two canisters outside the house. And this thing needs to follow safety rules - which apparently change from time to time. Otherwise they take the main part of the connection away. So they need to actually move the facility about 10 meters away (if they find a spot that is not near a sewer. There are several sewers in the back yard), pulling copper pipes through to the new location and setting up a fixed, level position where they'll put the canisters and the connection
( ... )
Well, the rules change from time to time, because they draw conclusions from accidents or reports from abroad, I suppose. Do they send messages to people's home in Switzerland? They certainly don't update anybody here until there is a mandatory check.
The rules haven't actually changed in a long while. 5 years ago they added the "keep distance from sewer" rule. But in the previous safety check my landlady convinced them to have the cans moved about 20cm to the right to be "far enough" from the sewer. Now she wanted to do the same thing but she sent to a fax number that appears on their forms and web site, and it's disconnected! I can't blame her for wanting to switch companies, but with Israel being the monopoly country it is, it's a difficult and expensive process. I can however blame her for not following the simple rule of sending a fax and calling to verify its arrival.
