Operation Read or Die Revival
A few days ago, I received an e-mail notice alerting me that the domain for readordie.us was going to expire soon. I later received a message from a_tannenbaum, alerting me to vandalism on the wiki. This led to me to thinking how there has been little activity related to R.O.D and whether it was worth revisiting those projects.
For those projects to be considered worthwhile, there needs to be some sort of revival in R.O.D interest. It’s been three years since the episodes have been discussed in detail. It’s been longer since the OVA was discussed and the manga volumes just never got the full attention they deserved. If I expect to get anywhere with readordie.us and with the Read or Die Wiki, then I have to find a way to have this community revived and discussing Read or Die again.
Well, we better get around to reviving because I’m planning to get as far as I can with those projects.
So, how can the community be revived?
Well, as I said, it’s been a long time since we watched the series and discussed it here in the community. And most of the people here weren’t part of the community when that was done.
So, I propose that we start it all over again.
When R.O.D the TV first started and the fansubs were first coming over, the two episodes released biweekly were watched by everyone and we all posted our thoughts on the series. Everyone was forced to watch at the same time because of the airing schedule of the show.
The DVDs may be available but we can still return to the format of watching and deconstructing the series two by two. We can even include the OVA this time and now that we have seen all of the series and read most of the manga, we have a new perspective that wasn’t present the last time we all discussed the series.
On the weekend of February 16th, I’m going to watch the Read or Die OVA. On the 18th, I’m going to post my thoughts on the series, just like we used to do. Two weeks later, I’m going to do the same thing with the first two episodes of the series and I’m going to continue with 2 more episodes every two weeks and post my thoughts on it each Sunday.
I hope that those of you reading this will do this as well. Note only will it be great fun but it will also promote the series with everyone in the community and will be a great help in helping to revive projects like the wiki, R.O.D fanfiction and AMVs.
So, if you feel like taking part, leave a comment. If you think I’ve gone mad (which is certainly a likely prospect), then say that instead.
