The most frustrating thing about creative endeavours, in my view, is that if something is going badly, it's hardly ever worth persisting. I always have to get up, walk away, and do something else once things start going badly.

What about you guys? Can you make yourselves keep going and have something turn out well?

art, ask the f-list, fanart, the endless list of things to write, fanfiction

If I force myself, my writing turns out stilted and doesn't read well, so I move onto something else. This is why I've barely written anything and haven't finished anything for the last few years.

(As for art, I only draw when I feel inspired/bored anyway, so my stuff is usually quickies and I don't have that problem.)

I think it depends. If I'm working on a long story, or if my co-author and I are writing one of our novels, I have to push forward even if it seems to suck or just not be working out. The good thing about a long story is that if one section doesn't work, you can let it suck for a little while, move past it, and then when you have fresh perspective, you can come back and fix it and make it good.

With shorter stories or one-shots it can be different. I can't tell you the amount of one-shots or stories I've started that haven't gone anywhere. However, I've also found that if I just leave the beginning of something and come back to it later, I sometimes find new inspiration to finish it.

If you do force yourself to keep writing and you don't like it or think it turned out badly, you can always save it on your computer and come back to it when it's not so fresh, and read it with new eyes. You might be surprised that it wasn't as bad as you thought, or you might find ways to be able to fix it to make it good.

With long stories it's easier, I write the stuff I am inspired to do and ignore the bit I have troubles with - my sense of productivity is not hurt. Short stories get abandoned easier. I keep them on the HD as I really can't force myself to write anything when I don't feel like it, so they collect dust until I find new inspiration... hopefully.

This. This is so relevant to my interests, you don't even know. *is excited*

I'd really love to know where they got some of this stuff, but I'm even more interested in them finishing this up, so we get the whole story.

ALSO, HELL YES, ZAZ AND I WERE RIGHT ABOUT WHY WEISS WAS SPECIAL!
