FamilyI simultaneously adore and am immensely irritated by my family. I really wish I'd done 3/4 Art last year.

One of our tasks during the exam is to analyse an artwork from a selected number, which are in a coloured insert in the exam paper. They choose a wide variety of artworks, from ancient sculpture to modern pop art and just about everything else you can think of. Including movie stills.

I finished the shirt. Finally. I called my parents in to have a look (they've been following my progress and are very impressed), and my brother followed.

His comment (after a long pause)?

"It's quite reasonable, actually."

I have to hand in my Art folio in a little over two weeks, which means I'm going to have to put in quite a bit of work between now and then.

On top of everything else, of course, though in one way it will be a relief. After I hand in my folio, a lot of worry about Art can just be left behind. Still, I can foresee some stress relating to this in the ( Read more... )

The most frustrating thing about creative endeavours, in my view, is that if something is going badly, it's hardly ever worth persisting. I always have to get up, walk away, and do something else once things start going badly.

What about you guys? Can you make yourselves keep going and have something turn out well?

Salvador Dali was a very, very odd man, but my God, he was an artist. I had a great time at the exhibition (even though it was really crowded) -- there was some fantastic stuff there, including the lobster phone, and Dad bought the catalogue, so I can look at the works all over again.
