OoC: Some Notes on Identity Issues

Because I think about this man way too much.
I have a habit of using Bourne and David interchangeably when talking about this character. That is not the case in this essay. The different names are important here.

Poor, confused David. For someone with that kind of past, he's adjusting surprisingly well.

Does this mean that, despite his horrendous way of going about it and his half-selfish reasons for pointing out the fact that the name is still a part of him, Edgeworth is sort of right?

Yes, it does. And that kind of upsets David.

It's probably one of the things that's allowed him to cope, too. Even if he has his struggles and falters sometimes. ^_^;;

My Edgey muse isn't smirking at him. Really.

Okay, he actually isn't, for once. This is one situation where he's hating that he's right (though he doesn't know that he is, he's seeing things only from his own experience and perspective). He respects David and has no desire to hurt him, but he's also angry to think that David might be turning his back on his responsibility (even though he ISN'T) and wants to be sure he doesn't make the mistake Maraich has (in his eyes).

In other words, he's doing it out of love. ♥

Oh god, such a complete misunderstanding. David's so upset right now because the way Edgey's going about this sounds to him like Edgey's saying that the most important part of David is and always will be the killer. Which is kind of David's worst fear (tied with the other worst fears of losing Marie and/or Cori...which actually kind of relates to that first worst fear...). It has nothing to do with not accepting that he's responsible (because he does accept that) and everything to do with his being able to be a good person
