Sweet Companions

Characters: Kukai, Daichi, and Yachiru
Setting: Streets of Haven => Kukai's house (eventually)
Time: Sometime during the day
Summary: Kukai and Yachiru finally meet in-person! Hilarity obviously ensues.
Warnings: Besides the inevitable cute attack between these two? Not much I can think of. If necessary, I'll update it.

Yachiru had been traipsing cheerfully through the streets of Haven for quite some time now. He hadn't told her how far away his house was! She frowned and took a quick look at the map drawn for her.

"This way!" she chirped determinedly, sure she was close now. She was, in fact, just a little ways down the street from his home. Unfortunately, Yachiru was traveling in exactly the wrong direction.

"Sushi, sushi, sushi!" she chanted happily. Lunch had been terrible at the place she was supposed to live now. Even Yachiru wouldn't touch it. She'd ravenously devoured the building's supply of candy instead once she'd found it, but the adults there hadn't cared much for her course of action.

After waiting maybe about five minutes, Kukai leaned against the doorframe of the kitchen. "Daichi... I think you should go look for her."

Immediately, Daichi stared, "Me? But shouldn't you..."

Kukai jerked his thumb at his parents watching TV in the next room, "They already think I'm trying to sneak out every hour. It'd be better if you did so."

Daichi knew when he was defeated, so he gave his friend a salute and promptly floated around the street. Where was that girl...? OH! Someone nearby was there, but could they see him? Daichi frowned. How on earth was he supposed to go get her now?

Yachiru could sense somebody approaching, and turned around, "Hello!" she exclaimed brightly, no hesitation at the sight of the tiny person floating there.

She eyed him, but it wasn't the look of someone shocked at the sight. Instead, she was wondering exactly what he was and whether he'd want to fight, "Hey, Flutter, you're not one of the things I'm supposed to be fighting here, are you? If you are, are ya strong?"

A fight was always good, and it would be pretty cool if one of the few people smaller than Yachiru was also strong. At the same time, though, the shinigami wanted to continue on her quest for sushi. Her stomach emphasized the latter of these with a quiet grumble.

Daichi couldn't help staring at her. Wait, what? He and Kukai had lived here for the past two months without anyone being able to see Daichi... it was almost as if he were invisible to the whole world. Then he took another look at Yachiru. Right, she looked like a little kid... and little kids could usually see Shugo Chara, so it wasn't too weird. Right?

Laughing nervously, Daichi leaned back, "Nope, I'm certainly not!" Heh, kids these days. She watched too much tokukatsu TV shows, that's for sure. He grinned widely, "But I'm pretty strong. Say, uh, are you looking for Kukai's house by any chance?"

Being Yachiru, she wouldn't have called Kukai by his name even if she had known it. Which she didn't. Even so, she nodded hopefully. "Mmhmm! For sushi." Yachiru knew where she was going! Really! But she was hungry, and maybe Flutter knew a shortcut.

"Do you know him?" she asked.

She wondered how Flutter could fly, since he didn't have wings. Flying wouldn't be as nice as riding on Ken-chan's shoulder, of course, but it would be interesting to know how anyway. Maybe it was the same energy that made him powerful, since he said he was strong too.

Daichi nodded enthusiastically, "Yeah! He and I've been friends for years!" He then gestured for her to follow him as he started flying towards Kukai's house.

"Come on! I'll show you where he lives!"

"Yaaaaaaaay! Sushi!" Yachiru dashed alongside the small figure, barely refraining from passing him. Her stomach growled audibly as she did. Yachiru's appetite was always nigh insatiable, and being stuck into a human body didn't lessen it any. The girl wasn't always hungry, but she was never full.

"So what are you, Flutter? You said you're strong, and if you've been his friend for years, you musta come here like I did. You don't seem like a ghost or a shinigami, you're too little! Maybe you're like Jiggly's hairthingys?" The shinigami took no notice of any confusion caused by her words.

Ah, figured she was hungry! Daichi couldn't help chuckling as he took Yachiru around towards the back of Kukai's house. "I'm not a ghost! Or a... hairthingy," He blinked, not quite sure what she meant by that. (Did she really call her friend "Jiggly" too?)

"I'm a Shugo Chara," He explained solemnly. "Or a Guardian Character. We're born from the eggs of people's hearts... so basically, we're like guardians for kids. If you can see me, that probably means yours hasn't been born yet."

With that, he gestured to the sliding doors. Kukai opened the door for them and smiled, "Ah, sorry about that! It's nice to meet you, Yachiru-chan!"
