There are few things more tedious than balancing a checkbook. Usually I can keep it pretty straight, but about four months ago I wrote my mom a check...and she never cashed it, lost it, found it but STILL didn't cash it...and so the whole thing went kerblooey. Upside, though, is that I have more money in the account than I thought.

"Yes, we--"
"I saw you have orange mint and peppermint, but do you have mint leaves?"
"Did you want spearmint?"
"Is that what mint leaves are? Spearmint?"
"That or peppermint, yes."
I just...had no words. Why the fuck do you think it's called peppermint and orange mint and spearmint??

Today the temperature was about ninety-five. It was hot, it was humid, it was hazy. The weather channel was squawking about ozone warnings for those who lived in the city, and it was pretty ick where I am, too.

I've just been attacked by an ant. I'd never considered how much a single ant bite could hurt, let alone the six or so currently on my shoulder and side. And it wasn't even a fire ant.
Work is shitty. I'm considering not coming back next year. I think I need to find an occupation that doesn't require me to deal with people--or at least one that lets ( Read more... ) -

After spending the morning answering the phone at work, I can say, with great authority, that parents need to start teaching their children some phone skills. I'm not asking for much, but it would be nice to pick up the phone and not be deafened by a shrill voice screaming, "DO YOU HAVE WEBKINS??!!" Seriously. Why oh why can't my boss hire sane people? Three-quarters of our seasonal help is batshit crazy, and they're the ones I have to work with. I liked it better when I was just expected to water and trim the flowers. Now I have to explain everything (and I suck at that), and watch what everyone's doing, and fix everyone's mistakes. Ah, the spring season is truly here. Now are the days when we order out for lunch at work on the weekends, which means I can get a foot-long sub for four bucks. God, I love that deli.

Friendly fire, isn't.
Earlier today an FBI agent was shot (and later died) while tailing three armed robbers near where we live. On the ten o'clock news they said that even though none of the suspects were reaching for their guns, the FBI panicked, started shooting, and hit their own guy. Weirdness ( Read more... )
