Today was the first day of my six-day orientation bonanza at Ohio State.  The school's Faculty and Teaching Assistant Development department is hosting the first three days, which are devoted to cramming as much information about effective teaching down my gullet as possible.  I learned the demographics of Ohio State's undergraduate and graduate

The state of Washington has the same kind of liquor laws.

My first stint as TA was twice a week for 1.5 hours per day. I bored them to tears on days 1 & 2 (stood behind the podium and lectured) and then loosened up (sat on the desk and put them in groups) and was able to have a lot of fun with it. Of course, I was a TA for Anthro's "Magic, Witchcraft, and Religion" course which has an inherent "interesting" component.

The main thing - you have to LOVE the subject you are teaching. If you don't - they can tell! I don't think this is going to be a problem with you, though. =D You'll be fine.

I guess we should have sent you with more "happy juice" on your cross country trek. =(
