Part 1
He dressed and left the safety of his room. Cracking the door open, peeking his head out first.
“Maya…?”
“In the kitchen…” her voice sang out. He pushed the door opened, crossing the threshold from his room following the sound of her voice. “All dressed now? You ready to go?”
“How did you get in?"
“You left the door unlocked?"
“No. I didn’t. I wouldn’t."
She blushed. He pushed his sliding glasses back up his nose, he was already sweating. She turned to look at him, leaning against the counter. “Are you gonna wear that?”
He looked down at himself; khaki covered his legs, sensible shoes, a belt to match and a crisp, white, long sleeve shirt. “What’s wrong with what I have on?”
“It’s too hot Gabe. You should put on something cooler.”
“I’ll be alright.”
“You’re gonna burn up.” She raised her hands to her hair, scooping it together in a high ponytail and wrapping to around until in curled onto itself, off of her neck. The motion of her wrist and fingers mesmerized him and he almost lost his train thought. He shook his head.
“Don’t change the subject Maya. How did you get in?”
“What can I say? Your neighbors like me.”
“My neighbors don’t have keys to my apartment.”
“No, but I do.” Reaching into her pocket she pulled out a ring of keys and placed it on the counter. Then she stood on her toes, reaching up, to pull down a glass from the cupboard over the sink, filled it with water and begin drinking from it.
“How did you get …?”
She laughed and threw one of his jackets beside the keys. “They were still in the pocket from when you walked me home yesterday. “Here’s your jacket back by the way.” she said with a wink as she sipped from the glass again..
He stared down at the items then looked back up at her. “You had my keys?”
“You didn’t know you left them? How did you get in to your house?”
“I’m a watchmaker; I know how to get into my own apartment.”
Her eyebrows rose up and her lips puckered as she let her head tilt to the side. “Really?” she asked in an unbelieving tone.
He blushed again. “There’s a spare I keep in the light fixture just outside the door. I guess I was distracted, I forgot about the …” he motioned to the items and she smirked.
“It’s okay.” She said as her fingers plucked at her top. “Are you ready to go? I’m dying in here.”
“I thought you were used to the heat; working in a restaurant, coming from DR.”
“Si, but I’m not used to plastic furniture. So we have to go!”
He corked his mouth trying to hold back a smile. “One time, I had plastic on one chair! And you never let me forget it." She smiled brightly up at him and he rolls his eyes. "Fine” he said as he picked up his keys and jacket moving towards her. “Where are we going?” before he could finish the sentence he felt his the jacket leave his hand whooshing past his head as it landed back on the counter. “Wha…?”
“Too hot, Gabriel!” her accent thickened.
“It’s not going to be hot all day. How long are we staying out til?”
“…As late as we have to”
“Then I’m definitely bringing it for later.”
“What’s happening later?”
“You’ll see.”
She let out an exasperated sigh, tilting her head back then recovered quickly pointing a small finger at him. “Bring it if you must, but I don’t want to hear you complaining about it.”
He bit back another smile, swept two fingers over his heart, then raised them in the air. “Scouts honor.” She squinted her eyes at him and grabbed his hand before he could delay them longer. He threw the jacket over his arm as she dragged him along.
“Do you even know where we’re going?”
“Anywhere that’s out of your stuffy old apartment.”
Part 3 AN: I'm so ashamed of this G rating. *sigh*
