Part 1 Part 2 "Are you hot, yet?"
“I’m good thanks.” The sweat pored off him in rivers. He noticed her skin glowed subtly with perspiration, but she didn’t look uncomfortable. She smiled up at him. “What?”
“You’re melt in this weather.”
Maya steers him towards 'Casa de Sopa' where she relieves him of his jacket, offering him sunglasses instead. She tried to force a sun hat on him, but he isn't having any of it.
“It's for your protection, Gabriel.” She then reaches up on tip-toe, to plop a straw hat on his head. “We can’t have you all red.”
“This is like a grandpa's hat.” He takes it from her, holding it above her, just out of her reach.
“Right, just your style.” she pokes him in his side and he laughs, bending awkwardly. “Okay, now you’re ready.”
"You think this is funny?" he asks, the look she gives him is comical.
“Gabriel, I’m not walking around with you wearing a coat like we're in the middle autumn. We’ll get funny looks.” His hand squeezes around hers and she looks down at it. “Look you’re already sweating.” She moves her hands to his wrist, unbuttoning his sleeve, rolling it up along his arm. “And I’ll faint if I have to look at you in that thing.”
He stands stiffly, staring down at her while she messes with his sleeves. Suddenly a childhood memory flashes in his head of his mom dressing him before church. He pulls his hand away from Maya, finishing the sleeve himself. “I can do that, thanks.” There’s a tight smile on his lips and he blushes. She pushes her own sunglasses onto her head and he notices her huge eyes.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah," He says distractedly "you’re right about the coat, but I'm leaving this hat.” He puts the hat on a high up shelf (where she has no hope of reaching it) and grabs her hand, pulling her out the door. “Let’s go.”

Gabriel is glad Maya took the jacket from him. He can’t imagine walking around with it and wonders why he thought to bring it in the first place. He switches his regular glasses for the sunglasses Maya brought him and stuffs his hands into his pockets. They walk slowly, and stick to the shade. She buys him a lemon Italian ice and he hands her napkins before her cherry flavored version melts in her hands. They eat it in comfortable silence as they walk along. Maya hums softly and Gabriel steals glances at her when he thinks she’s not looking. He can feel the sweat slipping down the back of his neck, his fingers pluck at his shirt, stirring up the hot air as it swirls beneath.
He looks down at Maya, their eyes lock and she blushes before looking away.
"What?"
“Nothing." she says very quickly, and then "You look good, Gabe.” She nods as she walks beside him and a few strands slip from her ponytail.
He stares at her mouth, noticing her lips are red from the cherry, her cheeks from the heat. It's just the heat, he thinks. He struggles for words. "You-- I?"
“I’m making a mess.” she interrupts, bending slightly to keep the cheery from dripping onto her clothes. Turning she stops in front of him, suddenly, and he nearly knocks her over. He thinks as he grabs her elbow and feels her arm curve around him, that it’s too hot to touch and his fingers dig into her shoulder as she tries to rights herself. The ponytail on her head bobs, swaying back and forth as she pushes her hand against his stomach. There's a strange look in her eyes.
He’s caught for a moment, in her gaze, and he loosens his grip before speaking. He feels lightheaded. It's the heat.
“Why did you stop?” he asks
“Do you hear that? There’s music playing." Her eyes drift to the sidewalk, near the street and she perks up immediately. “Oh my goodness, we have to go this way, now!” she sprints in front of him disappearing around a corner just ahead.
“Maya?” he takes long strides to catch up with her. When he rounds the corner, he is seized with a sharp feeling of sensory over load. There’s the sound of music, splashing water and children laughing. Maya stand before him, a smile as bright as the sun, bouncing happily in one spot. Her excitement brims and she runs back to Gabriel, pushing her treat into his hand. “Hold this!” she squeals, before she runs off into the light spray of a conformed fire hydrant.

He is stuck to the spot as he watches her dance and play with the neighborhood children, spinning under the cold spray, as it makes rainbows in the air. Her laughter carries above all the other sounds. She turns, looks at him, soaking wet and smiling. His grip tightens on their refreshments.
She runs back to him out of breath, pulling at the binding in her head, shaking her hair out. She looks down at his hands and laughs again. The sound nearly undoes him.
“These are ruined.” She shakes her head, removing the destroyed wrappers from his hands and disposing of them in a nearby bin. He is so enchanted by the image of her; he hardly notices her pulling him along.
“I’m sorry.” he says dumbly. There was a wicked glint her eyes and she took another step backward. Her hands tightened around his, her eyes pulling him in.
“Not as sorry as you’re gonna to be."
His face scrunched with confusion, then he feels the sharp prickled of cold water raining down onto his sun warmed skin. His eyes close and his mouth falls open, as he soon realized what she meant. She laughs even harder, doubling over in front of him. His hands come around her shoulders as she leans against him, shaking with laughter. He can’t help but he amused, as she wraps her arms tight around him, wetting him further with the moisture on her body.
"Are you finally cooled off?" her voice is husky in his ear and he can feel her body vibrating against his own. His penis jumps against her belly and he catches her eye. There is a pregnant pause as his grip tightens on her and she looks up at him. He bends in a surprising, scooping her off of the ground and walked closer to the hydrant. She fights and clings to him simultaneously and he finds the combination exhilarating. The kids playing under the spray, jump up and down, cheering him on, as the old people watch from their stoops, shaking their heads and smiling.
