A fantastic uncertainty vs. a decent certainty

Yesterday, my boss spontaneously took a month of stress leave. She did not leave any instructions, no notes, nothing except that under doctor's orders nobody is to contact her for anything even remotely work related. She didn't even make up a schedule for next week ( Read more... )

Wow. That's odd that your boss didn't leave any instructions.

I don't think you're crazy for still wanting to leave though. If that's not where you want to live, it just isn't.

But it's good they have confidence in you like that.

Have you tried the good 'ole pro-con list?

Yes, yes I have. But it still comes down to what do I WANT? Can I justify quitting if I'm offered to be freakin' manager of a whole store? Not easily. A year ago, six months ago, I would have loved to do it. But if I do stay, I give up any chance of the apprenticeship. And I want that so bad. The flip of that is, I've never pierced anyone; what if I find out after a week that I don't like it? Too many sides to this coin for a simple pro-con list, but yes I've done it.

If I understand correctly, this job is vanilla-mainstream, but in a harsher part of the world (very cold winters, farther from family, etc ( ... )

You summed it up quite neatly, yes.

I would not be given a title of assistant manager, let alone co-manager. http://raze--the-rose.livejournal.com/315068.html This is a post from last November, where I documented what happened last time I asked for the Assistant Manager title (it's a little down there)

It it were only family and warmth that the south offered, I would be more willing to wait until moving down. The lure of money is a strong one. But the piercing apparenticeship will be filled this fall. If I'm there, I can hope it will be filled by me, as I am "the best candidate". If I'm not, I may wait years before another such opportunity presents itself; the normal method of finding an apprenticeship is to keep asking until they say yes; for my would-be teacher, this took three years.

I'm just going to continue on with my plans to move; I have until the end of August to decide, because that's when Pam is *supposed* to come back. If it gets to where she says she's not coming back for sure, then we have to talk.

I'd say be very careful: there might be something that Pam knows and you don't, for example about the financial status/economical outlook of the store. Consult your religion's divining methods, though my instinct immediately tells me this is just a test of your resolution and that you should move, but see what your divination methods tell you, this is why you practice them, correct?

If you recently did something (religious, like a ritual) to ask for more money/a more secure working position, this obviously changes, as this might be a result of that.

I should pull runes again. The last time I did (admittedly a month ago) it was clear: Moving. Everything pointed to travel, moving, new beginnings and whatnot.

I'll do it again and post the results, later.
