Fic: Dying of the Light (Authority)

Ahh! I wrote a whole ten-page story! When did that happen?

The Authority is one of those source materials (like Harry Potter, like Torchwood, like most fandoms in which I've written fic) that's so full of holes you could write for a lifetime and not fill in all the missing scenes, let alone add new plots. I love, love, love writing missing-scene ( Read more... )

Realy nice work. As ever you've got a way to make a story almost painful to read, but fantastic none the less. With an excellent emotive descriptions and fantastic characterisation. I don't know the Authority that well, but I know it enough to appreciate this story. A lot of fun. thanks!

Thank you! Glad to see you around! :D

Glad I got the characters across. I always worry that I don't have a handle on their voices when I devour a new fandom in one long binge and then write fic immediately... but this fandom's pretty malleable as far as interpretation. Which also makes it more accessible to those who haven't read much of it, so that's nice!

I usually do make an effort to give the less common sensory input some wordcount, but I just forgot this time! Visualizing this sort of undead, rearranged, tumbledown London took all my concentration. I just though, "Eh, smog speaks for itself. Everyone knows London doesn't smell like roses, even on the best of days." :D

It's hard to take a place you remember mostly in sunlight and try to imagine it in darkness. Fun, but hard!

LOL COLLEGE AU STAR TREK. I want to read it! Do want, do want! XD

I don't even know! I ripped through all of the comics and just sat there all glaze-eyed afterwards and realized that the only way to get more Authority was going to be to write it. After that it was all "WHEE! FIC!" But I'm glad it's good, and didn't turn out rushed. :D Thank you!

I MISS YOU WHY DID YOU GRADUATE. D: (And I'm sorry about the lack of jobs. Boo.)

Popping over from the Authority community--thank you so much for sharing this! I think you capture the feel of everything wonderfully, as well as writing the characters spot-on. I was disappointed they didn't do more with this situation in the comics, so it was really great to get to read this and have the gap filled in, and in such a wonderfully written manner. Thank you again.

Thank you so much! I was worried that I'd devoured the comics so fast that I wouldn't have a good grasp on the character voices yet, but I'm glad it worked out. I love some good post-apocalyptic survival angst, so even though I loved all the "hell yeah!" moments of World's End, I did want to see more of the depowered team and all their daily problems. :)

Very nice! You really nailed the hopeless feel that World's End has. And your Midnighter! Oh man. It hurts reading him. Just. He was chocking on personal loss in this incredibly shitty situation and just- Wow. Really nailed it there.

Thank you so much! I felt so bad for Mid and Swift throughout World's End that they have to deal with almost a kind of survivor's guilt - there's an awful burden placed on them because their powers haven't been affected at all while characters like Jack and Angie suffer so much loss of ability and identity. Mid's damage is so much more personal, but since he's not a sharer or a complainer, he's just gonna let it fester. I love my broken men. :D
