Blogger Says HP Lexicon Book in "Best Interest of Society"

FLC Law & Society Arts and Entertainment Blog has a six-part analysis of the Lexicon case, with an emphasis that RDR has a good chance of winning the case.
"Fair Use assures us that, with regard to intellectual property, society’s interests are relevant.... For one, a judgement in Rowling’s favor would discourage the flow of information from the ( Read more... )

I honestly wouldn't put it past WB to turn HP into a crappy Saturday morning cartoon. Face it, the advertising money would come rolling in. So not only 7 (or 8) movies that have nothing to do with canon, but a slew of cartoons that have nothing to do with canon as well. Oh joy.

I think there are certain fans who would prefer a crappy cartoon series to the actual books. A cartoon is shiny and easy to understand, and WB could certainly cash in big time with lunch boxes, action figures, and dvds.

Sometimes when JKR talks about the books, it sounds like sort of Scooby-Doo cartoonish version to me. "The Silver Doe" becomes "The Return of Ron." *lol* Deadbeat Dad Lupin becomes "very parental" to Harry. James "takes care" of everyone with his bags o' money - well that shouldn't surprise us. . . .

[sarcasm] But, hey -They could take all the fluffy new facts from the Scottish Book, and mash them together with the "extra" scenes they film for the movies (because, dang, the canon just isn't interesting enough). That might create an exciting spin-off that has nothing to do with the HP books at all - cartoons they show one-time-only so no one will get a chance to over-analyze them on forums (or unofficial encyclopedias!). And a fast-paced collage is much harder to follow than words written on paper, so JKR can easily "spin" it her way. New fans with shorter attention spans could replace the long-term troublemakers who misinterpret everything based on over-reading. [/sarcasm]

LOL.

I do believe that it would be in the best interest of fans that the Scottish Book is revised periodically, such as text books are. New information is constantly being uncovered. I expect by 2020 that there should at least be five editions. (My attempt at sarcasm)

Good idea! *lol*

By the year 2020 (interesting date!), readers will have to read the Scottish Book first before reading even one of the regular books, just so they know the backstories on everyone. So by the time readers get to OotP, they will know everything that happens. So the Scottish Book will actually become Book One, and Books 5-7 will become the "Appendix." :)
