Merry Christmas Meme

Nov 27, 2007 18:49

ms_arithmancer gave me this meme. I've paired it up with one of my favorite holiday movies - Raymond Briggs "The Snowman" - and a really pretty animation and song from the movie about flying to the North Pole. The song is "Walking in the Air" with Aled Jones:

That's a cute video! I've never seen "The Snowman".

--I buy alot of gift bags at Dollar Tree, where my son works, and I buy them on sale after Christmas. I also like to wrap, and Santa uses special paper.--

*trying to imagine a sale at the dollar store*

Sorry - bad grammatical construction - my sentence isn't balanced there.

I buy bags on sale after Christmas at places like T.J. Maxx and Books-A-Million. Although they probably do mark down the bags at Dollar Tree the day after Christmas to 50% off.

I figured out what you meant after thinking on it for a little bit. :) But, I still thought the idea of a sale at the dollar store was funny. *lol*

It is! :) But no sale is too cheap for me!

You should watch The Snowman sometime if you get the chance. The animation is really well-done. There's mostly no dialogue because it's based on a picture book, so your friend's daughter might enjoy it.

"12. Can you ice skate?
Goodness no! No way to learn when I was growing up because most water here never freezes enough."

Two years spent in Madison, WI as a little girl are responsible for my ability to ice skate. Lots of water there, and it freezes quite solid.

I am trying to picture shooting mistletoe out of trees...odd image, that.

I've never known anyone who actually gathered mistletoe by shooting it out of trees, but a friend of mine who grew up near the Smokies told me that people do that. And I found a link about it on National Geographic, of all places:

I also found a video that I'll post!

I remember "The Snowman" from elementary school. It's wonderful.

And yes, the dollar stores do have after-Christmas sales (at least the one in CO). My mom hits them every year.

And I don't ice-skate either. More like ice-fall.

Hey mistletoe is not that poisonous! I wouldn't eat it, though. And animals are normally quite clever, my mom's (and formerly my) cat never eats poisonous plants (only I have every time nearly a heart-attack coming home and discovering really dangerous plants in her flat, like lily in the valley or Christmas star, but he never eats it).

The snowman is so wonderful! I cried over it as a child, now I love it. Thank you very much for letting me rediscover it :D
