I've been watching 30 Rock, and it's pretty fun. I don't really like Studio 60, not sure why... Oh, wait, I know. Maybe it's because every time I see Matthew Perry I keep thinking Chandler.
I can see where you're coming from with the thing about there aren't really any subplots. However, in a way there are because each hero discovering their powers is like a sub-plot, but Nikki's is by far the most detailed one. I think she'll get more interesting later on because apparently her evil self is named Jessica.
And I think the reason why most of them aren't like "OMGWTF I have powers!" is because some of them already knew they had their powers (namely, Claire, Isaac, and maybe Nathan).
I'm not sure how long each Hero had their powers. I mean, the first time we see Claire, she's on "attempt number 6." So 6 isn't that long and it seemed like she was still testing her powers out. And Isaac definitely is still discovering his, but I think his drug abuse is his way of coping with it. I just wish we could see more character reactions to the powers instead of plot reactions to the powers.
I don't know, maybe it's the actress who plays Niki, but I just don't care about her character. Also, I'm sticking to my original opinion: schizophrenia is not a superpower. I know thats snarky and I know she's a hero, but seriously, "Jessica" is just able to harness Niki's strength better and therefore has more power. I'm waiting for something mind blowing to happen with her character...
Well, episodes 4, 5, and 6 we're supposed to see the background info on Nikki, and the only one that's left is #6, so hopefully more things will be answered next week.
Some people have been saying that "Jessica" is D.L. in Nikki's body, which in my opinion is a little crazy, even for this series. (Note that these are the same people who say that Sylar is future Peter)
That actually was one of my theories about Niki. I thought it made a lot of sense until Niki slept with Nathan. That made no sense with the D.L. theory. But before that "Jessica" was acting in Niki's best interest and referred to Niki as an entirely different entity (hence the schizophrenia snark). Then Niki referred to "our" son which really key-ed me into that belief. I just need to figure out why D.L. would sleep with Nathan...
PB: Every week, I tune in with the same sentiments as you- generally negative, wondering when the repetitive "in danger" moments will end, and not really liking the "plotless" direction. But once I tune in, I remember why I like the show so much- it's preposterous, yes, but it has those shots of adrenalin in it. It's also fun to see T-Bag run off with the money, two fat, sleazy ex-COs chase them around, and the stuff that happens to sad, bumbling Sara. Poor phone booth person

Two years ago I had four shows airing at the same time. I eventually dropped one and resorted to rather unsavory methods to obtain the other. I'm good if it's two half hours and one hour. But once we get into more than that, I'm out and I have to prioritize. One of the reasons I can't drop Grey's is I'm holding out for awesome. That's like my Lost philosophy, if I keep watching, I will be blown away. I know Grey's has serious potential, I'm just waiting.
To me, I feel like Lost will blow me away sometime, or at least I'm hoping for it to. It's like chasing that feeling...it's still there, but barely. For Grey's, I seem to have lost attachment to everyone- I can't tolerate anyone anymore, maybe save for Alex and Bailey. I've seen the potential of the show, and I feel like it'll never reach it again.
But all those subplots are interconnected with the powers and this big event. I'm thinking subplots aside from the giant central plot. It just seems like everything is POWERS! I'd like to see more of the characters themselves and no consumed by what's going to happen or what has already happened
