The Catch-Up TV Post

So... I'm so not getting this show. I guess the first season had this whole exciting pay off and when the action of the break out occurred I was so pumped. Now they're out, and what? I'm getting very bored of these guys almost getting caught week after week. We know certain characters won't be offed, and yet those are the ones constantly in danger. I guess I just wish there was more to this season, but I can't pinpoint what's missing.

Why don't I just love this show? I mean, I should. I definitely should be head over heels in love with this show like everyone else. Except I'm not... I mean, I love Hiro and surprisingly I love Claire and I like Peter and I like what I've seen of Matt... but besides that... I can't stand Niki. She's just sooooooo boring. I mean, really the only story line I care about is Hiro's. I think I pinned down my problem with Heroes... It feels like there are no subplots. I feel like there is this one major plot with the NY Nuke and another major arc with Sylar, but other than that... I just feel like this show needs some stand-alone moments apart from the plot.

It's all so serious. I feel like these people need to find some humor in the fact that they have super powers. I mean, so far no one is like OMGWTF freaking out. They just seem to accept it... Um... Dudes, you guys have fucking super powers! Be more scared, be crazier... it's unrealistic that they would just be like... Ok... then they proceed to go about their daily lives... I just have a problem buying it.

I'll state my major concerns for Heroes again. It has the opposite problem that Lost has. Lost seems to have a start and a finish and there's always that concern that they don't know what to do in between. This often results in too many questions, little payback, and a lot of boring. Heroes seems to have everything charted out. We have the knowledge of this nuke that goes off in a few weeks, we know that they get together in the future. We know there's a super villain. I'm really worried that all these things will get tied up and we're left with nothing. Then the producers have to go back to the drawing board and hash out some bullshit plot line for the rest of the series. I know this is way overthinking the show, but it bugs me.

I know I'm not alone, it seems like people are pretty split over whether they love the show, like the show, or hate the show. I'm around 'like', but I wish I were at 'love'. I feel like I'm taking TV way to seriously and I'm expecting so much that I'm always let down.

How many times does 'save the cheerleader, save the world' have to come up? It's on the show, it's in the promos, it's in the ads. WE GET IT! Seems really lame if you ask me. I feel like Hiro would have been more rambly over his suggestion. Speaking of Hiro: how did he learn so much English so quickly? WTF. He did say "Oh, waffles! Woohoo!" It was cool seeing Peter do the prophetic painting thing. This led me to one question: why can't Isaac paint sober? Why does he need to shoot up before his visions? Maybe he's just getting high as an excuse.

Oh I'm so disappointed in this show. I'm so very disappointed in it. I'm just not caring AT ALL. I was so in love with this show, I just wanted to love this show so much. It's just not working out. It is definitely lacking some of the great humor that the West Wing had. I think Sorkin underestimated the comedy involved in the sketch comedy shows, so he dumbed it down to the point it is so stupid. Maybe if Sorkin hires some comedy writers the quality of the show would increase, because then I'd understand why Matt and Danny are so good at what they do. So far they just seem massively overrated.

Ugh, I hate this rape storyline. I just think it's unrealistic that all the victims are so vocal about their attacks. I would not have pegged Parker to join the angry feminists. Oh, btw: I fucking hate them. I fucking hate the feminists so much. Does that make me a bad person if I hate some of the rape victims too? They just seem so unreasonable and just generally asshole-ish. They just seem unable to listen to reason, especially when Veronica clears the frat boys of the crime. The gals just don't want to believe it and continue to be douches.

Let's move on the Logan, or this week, the Logans. Yes that first 'Charlie' was Logan from Gilmore Girls. This whole Aaron's Kidz thing was so predictable. I saw the sibling thing a mile away. I also saw 'Charlie' not actually being Charlie.

Oh and nice try with continuity. Raped summer '04? Try Christmas '03. How do you mess that up? That's like set up in the entire first season! This show is missing some of that umph that took it over the top in quality. It was there in 3.01, so I know it's still possible!

It's so weird that there are only two eps until the long hiatus. In two weeks no new eps until February. I'm just hoping that the action speeds up, it certainly looks like we're in for a Losties/Others conflict soon. I'm not big on these flashbacks, they're just not productive at all! What did we see in Sawyers? We saw that he's a good guy underneath the tough exterior! Well...duh! He is human, right?

I'm glad the Kate/Sawyer "I LOVE HIM!" thing wasn't what the promos made it out to be. It made sense and I didn't hate it. In fact, I was quite impressed by Evangeline Lilly this week. They seriously sent her to acting school or something. I'm impressed.

I knew the "pace maker" was a decoy. I didn't see the whole island outside the island thing. So this place is not where the Others lived, because they definitely lived on the Island. I don't know where they're going with this, but I know it's going somewhere.

Lets just skip to Desmond, because I'm most interested in his plight. I don't think he's psychic. A psychic thing would freak him out more. It's almost like he's experienced these events before. I listened to this podcast and they mentioned maybe when the Hatch "imploded," Desmond and the others existed outside of time and were able to experience things in the future. But yeah, I love Des. I'm so pumped he's a regular. Oh hows about those two random characters introduced. Paulo and Nikki. How awkward an intro, you'd think they would do better than the one line each last week.

I keep looking for Penelope to show up in a flash back. She is noticeably absent from this season. Her few seconds changed the way I watched Lost. Yet we still don't have any more info on her. How frustrating.

OK, so I checked out 30 Rock, because it was recently added to the new NBC Must-See TV Thursday line-up along with My Name is Earl, the Office, and Scrubs. It's a very funny show, I was laughing. I still think if 30 Rock and Studio 60 just had sex already they would create one super sketch comedy show. Ugh, this new Thursday line-up presents my first conflict of the season: Scrubs and Grey's Anatomy. I'll just tape Scrubs and 30 Rock and watch it at 10pm, because I've got that hour vacant.

So I've got two days off from school, which is nice, because I need sleep. Last night I just died and conked out at around 10:30. Then I woke up at 5:00am and had to work on an English paper. Bleh. I can't wait until I get to sleep!

prison break, lost, 30 rock, studio 60, grey's anatomy, my name is earl, heroes, veronica mars, gilmore girls, the office (us), scrubs
