Prompt: Written for spn_summergen, for faithburke's prompt Sam always knew he had a mother right next to him. He never realized she was dead. This story… isn't quite that, but I hope it comes close enough.

Yikes.

I had a feeling Sam was also dead...it was sad, but I thought he would go move on and wait for Dean, but then you incorporated further canon and now he's alive again in an older body...Just wow. Such twists. I can't even imagine what will happen next, but hopefully Sam gets away and gets back to Dean. He's still only really 12 after all and still looks up to Dean so I don't think he'd be tempted like he was when he was older (though I'm sure there are things the demons and angels can use against him to get him to cooperate).

But this was an amazing story! I loved it!

Thank you very much! The possibilities after this are endless, I agree, and of course Sam hasn't had all the life experience that he had in canon, which makes his reactions that much harder to gauge.

Wow, this was awesome!

Talk about twists and turns! I kept thinking that I knew where this was heading and then you'd throw a curve ball, followed by another dozen!

I loved the melancholy here, the aching sadness of Sam's death and how long it takes him to realise what happened. And I adored the idea that Sam always saw Mary and that she was protecting him, even after his death.

You did a great job of picking apart canon and then re-weaving it with amazing results. And the ending - all kinds of creepy and the idea that Sam's destiny is unavoidable really fits with the themes of the show.

I think this is stunning and you really worked the hell out of that prompt! Take care, :)

Oh, that was heartbreaking in so many ways! Poor Mary, doing what looks like in the long run, was the right thing, only twisted by the years.

Poor Mary, indeed. She was the only one who truly knew what was going on, but by the end she was so far gone she couldn't tell anyone.
