Someday I'll get serious about this "health" business.

So, I saw that someone I didn't know friended me, and I popped over to see what lessfern was all about, right? Turned out it was someone's Hacker's Diet journal. I'd only recently listed the Hacker's Diet as an interest, mostly because I'd been reading it and it made (and still makes) a great deal of sense to me. I haven't started it in earnest, mostly ( Read more... )

I can't believe you don't pee first. I go so far as to blow my nose; anything to shed even a gram! You must have a really good scale if you can get the .5s.

Good luck. It is so tough with little ones leaving out their half eaten Pop Tarts and Kraft dinners.

the best thing i've done is join a gym with a nazi slave-driver for a personal trainer, who will call me on the phone and nag me if i miss two days in a row. his advice to me: throw away your scale and work out and eat healthy because you WANT TO DO IT. you have to let go of the obsession with weight... only weigh yourself at your gym, one day a week... like every sunday morning or something and the rest of the week improve your habits.

ultimately, dieting doesn't work because you have to change your long-term self. you've got to change your lifestyle and enjoy it. that's the hardest part.

Yeah, definitely get rid of the scale. I fucking hate scales. I haven't weighed myself in months.

I judge my progress based on how loose my clothes are getting, how many tendons I can see in my hands, and how far my collarbone is starting to stick out, lol.

Now if you can only stop stuffing those pies in your cake hole you'd be losing lots of weight! j/k I just wanted to say cake hole. I've been at the gym since February and have also worked on my diet. It is a constant struggle. I have lost 40lbs, but I still have lots of work to go. Weighing yourself every day isn't a bad thing. But you can't be too concerned with what it says. What if you have a crap on deck that could choke a donkey? My suggestions: eat several small meals a day (5-6). Keep your carb intake low. It is ok to consume carbs in the morning, but avoid them at night. Make sure you have had your last meal atleast 3 hours before going to bed. Drink atleast a gallon of water a day.
