So, Meredith asked a very good question after dinner tonight.

Why are you in such a bad mood? Why, indeed? I love how she understates things. If a Xerox copy of me was asking the same question, it would ask "Why are you being such a prick to your family?" Why, indeed ( Read more... )

Oh, not with my parents. Any combination of those words will warrant a session of prayer and faith healing over the afflicted party.

Er, I'm exaggerating. A little.

And does everyone else have to dig their fingernails into their palms and grind their teeth into powder to keep from saying something socially awkward ("Shut up! All of you just shut! The fuck! Up!") or otherwise throwing a tantrum.

*raises hand*
i'm one of those that has to grind the teeth, etc.

Sounds to me like you and M need a quiet weekend away. I remember being carted off to Grandma and Grandpa's or a cousin's house when Hunter and I were little so that Mom and Dad could have some time away. That doesn't make you a bad parent - that makes you HUMAN.

Yeah, fo sho. Man, even a weekend in a decent hotel and dinners out and a movie (A movie! Imagine it!) would be oh so nice. Unfortunately, Eva is pretty well attached at the boob still, and Meredith's not too enamored of the idea of pumping bottles for her just yet.

So not yet. But soon, I hope.

Here you go:

That oughtta keep you busy for awhile. If worse comes to worse, you could just run away. Or you could pretend you've been kidnapped and demand ransom for yourself. Then you'd get rich AND gone.

Hah, well, they're certainly pretty, but in a weird sort of way that isn't even remotely sexy. Not unlike the absurdly, deliberately pretty young women I see from time to time around here or at the CSU campus. Very generic, cookie-cutter pretty.

Young women with long straight hair, long poorly-defined limbs, bare midriffs, lifeless faces.. young men with a surfeit of hair gel, obscenely inflated musculature, oiled skin, sharply chiseled good looks -- who needs it? I don't need porcelain china dolls or GI Joe action figures.

Thanks for the thought though!

Alright then. I can see you're a low-maintenance kind of guy. *hands over a bottle of lotion and a towel*

Thanks. I need to hear that sometimes. I suffer from an overabundance of guilt on the rare occasions I declare "Enough!" and put the kid down in front of a Bear In The Big Blue House DVD. Guilt that I'm raising a TV-idiot, and that it's just a heartbeat away from prescribing Ritalin whether he needs it or not.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with dropping the kiddo in front of the tv for a bit while you regain your sanity. it's better than screaming and doing lasting damage, right?
