Okay, first things first: you fuckers can't just wait for me to leave town to write over 80 entries after weeks of quietude. No way.

Thanks for the report! I've always been curious about those places... my list just keeps getting so long that I'll definitely have to live to be at least 96 to get to all of them.

Honestly, the South hadn't made the top tier of my list, and I only happened to make the trip because I had a friend who seemed established there. Good thing in the "pleasant surprise" sense, but that does make my list that much longer!

Isn't it great to have a personal tour guide? Nothing beats the 'locals' for finding the fun stuff!!

Welcome back!

Yes, indeed, and thank you. Looks like we'll hit Humboldt next! :D>

That second to last shot would make a good lj-icon, perhaps. You look so happy...

I wish I knew a damned thing about southern trees, though even those that do might have a hard time without any leaves on them. Do you recognize that one?

I do have one userpic free at the moment - I remain too cheap and uncommitted to re-up my membership - and I may shuffle them again soon, so I'll take your suggestion under advisement :)>

Awesome post!
looks like it was a great trip :-)
I'll have to do a trip like that soon!
I've never even made it east of the Rockies yet!!
Guess some of my friends just need to move about the country, or maybe it's that I just need more friends around the country?

Thanks, indeed, you should, although you could live a kick-ass life without leaving the West Coast, yes, and yes :)>

Oh, and a classmate of mine up at Humboldt State University once suggested that eco-groovy progressive people ought to colonize red states like Utah and throw elections. Maybe you could sell some friends on that?

Your report of things being like Wisconsin gladdens me. I must admit, I'm kind of hard on my Kentuckeh raised girlfriend when she suggests we visit her land down there. I usually say things like "Wait for me to get an eagle t-shirt with cut off sleeves and a baseball cap. Are my pants tight enough? Let me buy a Confederate flag for the back window of the car."

Maybe it won't be so bad if a dedicated South-hater like yourself was impressed.

I can speak only for what lies between Nashville and Mammoth Cave, but yeah, no worse than the Northwoods or the Central Valley, and with plenty to recommend. Go.
