I just want to put a disclaimer here that this is one of my favorite episodes. Yes, technically it's a rather run of the mill stand alone episode, but that pyramid just kills it for me. I don't necessarily agree that original always = best, but they just don't make 'em like that anymore. Even Zeo, which has arguably the best male Ranger lineup ever, never had unmorphed fights so awesome. [/fangirl].
Also, the outfits crack me up too. Even when they're given a perfectly good excuse to just wear regular jeans, the Rangers still have to broadcast their identity.
Okay, he's kind of lame here, but we think he would be ten times more awesome as a Captain Planet monster. He would totally work there.
That does beg an interesting scenario; in the battle of the goody-two-shoes, who wins, the Power Rangers, or the Planeteers?
They also let David Yost show off his mad gymnastics skills and I am very impressed. I wish they'd let him show off like that more often.I can't believe I never noticed his skills when I was a kid. David/Billy is so

It's really not a bad episode at all! It isn't one that stuck out in my mind, but it was fun to watch. Then again, even the bad episodes are fun to watch...
Also, the outfits crack me up too.
OMG the clothes are HORRIBLE! I don't care about fashion. I couldn't tell you what is fashionable and what isn't. I LIVE in blue jeans and t-shirts... and not even fashionable t-shirts. Just... t-shirts. I don't care about clothes AT ALL. And even I know the outfits on the show? Are horrible. That's really saying something if I notice how bad it is.
To my untrained eye, he seems like he's actually a better gymnast (or at least more dynamic) than Amy JoMy untrained eye agrees with you. However David apparently was more passionate about acting, abandoning gymnastics for it (though he did win several competitions) whereas Amy Jo was Olympics-bound before she suffered an injury and was forced to give it up. So I don't know who is actually better since they didn't follow the same track

I honestly didn't remember this episode before we started watching it. Which is sad, because the unmorphed fight scenes were amazing

And how would the tiny children know who they are? I mean, you can't expect seven-year-olds to know these things! /sarcasm

I've been thinking about this for a while now, and I think the answer may be Green Lantern.* I'm really not sure who would win in a fight, both teams are pretty awesome.

Man, this just goes to show how much things have changed. These days, Bulk's parents would be in Caplan's office with a lawyer (if not several) before the school day was over if they heard about Ms. Applebee laughing at their son

SERIOUSLY. I used to teach high school, and if I had EVER done anything like that, I would have been fired so fast.
One would wonder if Skull's parents had ever looked into the possibility that their child was an ADHD child.
One wonders if either of them ever got tested for a learning disability at all. That was my guess for them.
The Shield of Cheap Bling still looks infinitely more awesome on Jason than it did on Tommy. Or rather, it looks infinitely more awesome on the actor playing the Red Ranger in the stock footage from Japan than it did on the actor playing the Green Ranger in the stock footage from Japan.
It really did. I also wonder if Jason getting the Shield of Cheap Bling is what let him become more enthusiastic in his morphin cries.
Maybe I think that's generous, given the gross miscarriage of science that took place here. There's just no excuse for it.
Billy calling Zordon "Sir", eh? I probably risk earning someone's ire when I say... D/s anyone? >:)
I may only be 22, but I still remember commercials advertising both cassettes/videos and CDs/DVDs. How will our kids look at us when everything's converted to Blu-Ray? D:

Agreed, which is why it gets 1.5 fish. Were the gross miscarriage of science (I could have WEPT at the second "soil sample") not present, it probably would have barely qualified for 1 fish. It really wasn't that bad an episode, overall. Very consistent, aside from the science, which is unusual for Power Rangers!
I may only be 22, but I still remember commercials advertising both cassettes/videos and CDs/DVDs.Oh god I'm so OLD. I remember when my father brought home our first VERY EXPENSIVE VCR. I also remember when MTV was brand new and only showed music videos. I remember when cable only had something like 20 channels and that was amazing. I remember getting my very first cassette tape player instead of using my old record player (yes, I had a record player, no, I'm not quite THAT old). I remember when CDs were brand new and nobody knew quite what to do with them
( ... )
Now my children ask what a tape is and Drama Queen rolls her eyes at my "old cd collection" when she's got all her music on her little iPod (and wouldn't I like an iPod since it would be so much easier, and no, no I would not[...])
Well, I never liked iPods. I have one (it was a gift, I'd never actually BUY one), but... you know... I don't have to recharge my CDs. :D I'm gonna be a terrible parent because I won't be buying them any electronic device that starts with a lowercase i. >:-)

That doesn't make a terrible parent! That just makes you stodgy (and I'll happily admit to be stodgy myself... the best parents are, you see).
I blame their other parent on the iPod. I had planned on getting her a new cd player. He's the one that went after the iPod. Because it's PINK you see. *headdesk*
Contrary to appearances, I didn't just clone my sprogs. They do have another parent. And he's a tech geek.
