I'm still not entirely clear if they mean it'll broadcast on Christmas day or just around Christmas, or what? But yeah, if it's the former, I expect a lot of people will only see it a couple of days later, which is a bit sad - would have been nice to have one moment of closure more or less together one last time. D: But who knows, maybe it just means the reactions will just be spread over several days that'll feel like one, or something. *g*
If it's on the 23rd, I'll actually be around, heh. I guess it depends on whether they're just combining eps 12-13 or if ep 13 is extra-long. (You might be right if they want to wrap it up before the DW Christmas special.) But, oh, wow, that's a long time to wait. :( I hope you'll be having fun, in the meantime, at least!
IDK IDK. BECAUSE IT'S ALL DEFINITIVE NOW I GUESS? The feels hit me out of left field, did not see them coming.
I know exactly what you mean. The show has been endlessly frustrating, but there was always *something* to squee about or anticipate. Now all I can do is brace myself for the last few episodes.
I've mostly given up on decent story-arcs, but seeing the actors on screen has always been fun, and there were always good scenes to squee about or admire. Also knowing this is the end does make me more terrified and has me biting my nails hoping for at least a semi-decent ending, because this is the canon we'll have from now on. Come on, writers, you can do it, I hope.
Merlin fandom has always had a bit of a cosy feel to it, for me, and that's definitely thanks to all the wonderful people in it. <3
(Also, aww, your icon. I don't know if it's cute or sad-making.)
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! :( OMG no. No no no no no !!!! I can't believe that now is the final season and we have about a month to go until the end. :( :(
But hey, the positive thing is: it's not because the show is going to end, that our merlin_be meetings will! :D
well, if it's any consolation, the fandom doesn't have to end because the show does, and it quite probably won't. people are still writing torchwood and harry potter. and seriously, this show has given the fans so much reason for fixing things with fic, even my fingers are aching to write some.
but i get your frustration. i never really connected with the show, mostly because the writing just frustrates me to no end - and it still does, even though i'm not at all invested (but seriously? they're not going to let arthur find out until the last possible moment? really???), so i can't even imagine what it would be like if you are a loyal fan.
also, i did notice that most people you share one fandom with tend to pop up in another you like and another one and another one. so perhaps you'll get to do this all over again and that's fun too, right?
by which i don't want to say that merlin is rubbish or anything, and i wasn't trying to insult your taste, at all. i ship rps and wincest - i'm the last person to judge, trust me.
Yeah, that they're putting the reveal off till the last second is really frustrating (if we're even getting one at all, ugh), and I was really disappointed when it didn't happen in last year's finale, as it already felt like they'd really stretched it as long possible, then. There's a lot of things that I'm frustrated over where the writing is concerned, but I love the characters and M/A so much that it's still really hard to part with them and to know we won't ever get any new scenes with them (and to have the certainty that we won't ever get them properly dealing with the fallout of the reveal :/).
I'm sure the fandom won't suddenly die, but let's face it, most fandoms do become quieter and quieter once the canon is closed. (I feel like HP is one of the huge exceptions there, but then it's such a fascinating world and there are so many characters to play with.) I already feel like a lot of people have moved on from it out of frustration with the show.

i can relate so much, though. i feel the exact same way about torchwood - SUCH POTENTIAL. i'm sure that by the time i'm eighty, i'll still be pissed with russell t davies for screwing it up. and after children of earth there was a giant surge of fix-it fics, because things had to be fixed, obviously. your fandom could go the same way. perhaps merlin-fans that have left will be drawn back in now they know it's the last season... i don't know for sure, of course, and i do get your fear. i hope merlin can perhaps be one of those hp-like fandoms that keeps going strong even after the canon has ended.
i've started watching merlin again too - i've seen the first two season and then gave up because every episode just made me angrier about the way they wrote the female characters. i think season five is much better, though. it's still missing a bit of character development, indeed, but at least it's a bit darker now, which i greatly appreciate. if this had been season two or three, i definitely would have kept watching. but as you say, as a
