During my weeks with
the Oldies and
the Burbs, there were a few family gathering involving the Pleasants, which always dissolved into violence, despite my best attempts. So this week it's their turn and hopefully, I'll be able to repair the family dynamics enough to let them out in public.
First things first, their home needs a serious makeover.
I started by brightening up the kitchen and dining room. It wasn't until I started editing the pictures that I realised I should've added a half wall behind those counters after swapping the posh but boring ones for my favourite cheap, colourful, but plain backed ones.
Mary-Sue and Daniel's room gets an Asian-themed makeover. There's some weights for Daniel in the corner, and a bed that the maid hasn't been shagged in.
The living room stays much the same, just with new wallpaper and bookcases.
BIG makeover for Angie's room. That horrible wallpaper had to go. She's got a nice, swishy desk all ready for Humble's free PC and a pretty princessy bed.
Lilith's room got a makeover too. Couple of pictures of Nightmare Moon/Luna on the wall, I'm hoping her transformation from evil maniac who wants to overthrow her sister to loveable ham who rules with her sister will inspire. She's also got a bookcase and desk to help her knuckle down with her school work.
And not a moment too soon. Don't worry Lili, things will get better soon. You'll be able to annoy your parents with good grades before the week's out.
Just like Angie here.
Angela: Dad, dad, dad, hey dad!
Daniel: Little busy here, Angela.
Angela: But dad, look at this, dad! This is important!
Daniel: Trying to cook here, sweetie.
Angela: But DADDY! I've got an A+ dad!
Daniel: Mmmhmm, lovely ow ow fuckity shit, burned my hand.
Now because I'm using
meetme2theriver's cleaned up 'hoods, with Pleasantview as a shopping district, the premade families no longer have a maid by default. Also, Mary-Sue's Chance Card Of Certain Doom is no longer hard-coded. Usually I can't resist the temptation to cause drama, but this time I'm playing nice. Kaylynn (or rather, Sharlene, as she's named in my hood) has not been rehired and Mary-Sue makes it through the workday with no problems.
They celebrate this good day by breaking in the new bed.
And the twins are talking without trying to murder each other! They'll be BFF's in no-
Lilith: *hatehatehatehateHATEHATEHATE*
-tiiuuuuhhh maybe not.
Angela can't rest on her laurels for long, it's time Daniel gave her a hand with her homework.
Aaaaaaand while everyone else is otherwise occupied, Lilith decided she wanted to sneak out with l'il cousin Lucy. How could I deny her?
Oopsie.
Early morning snuggles.
Something troubling you, Angie?
Angela: Oh my gawd, that's like, so, y'know, like so, um, y'know... ugh, it's nothing.
Mary-Sue had a day off, so I sent her off to the local karaoke bar. Turns out Mary-Sue really likes karaoke.
She also wanted to earn some cash. So here, Mary-Sue, enjoy your 16 bucks. You earned it!
Mary Sue: Yay!
Then some food...
...Before more karaoke.
Mary-Sue: AAAAAAND IIIIIIIEEEEEIIIIIIIIEEEEEIIIIIII WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOOOOOOOOOOUEEEEOOOOOOOOOOoooooOOOOOoooooooooo!
Alas, when she gets home, she burns dinner.
Ugh, just pay the damn movers. That's what movers are for.
Jesus, those are some sucktastic movers! Why is Daniel the one stuck with the bill for their fuck-up?
Also, NOOOOOOOO!
I decided it was time Lilith got a hand with her homework too, so she asked Daniel. I was surprised when he refused! No wonder she hates her parents! And how do you expect her to get good grades when you won't help her?!
After Daniel lost all their money, I made the girls get jobs too. Although they don't need the cash so urgently (thank you, Mary-Sue!), it'll be good for college. Angela's LTW isn't career related (well, depends on whether you count business running as a career), so she's going to work with dad.
But Lilith desperately wants to be the next Gordon Ramsay, so she's got a job in culinary.
Date night for Daniel and Mary-Sue. I send them out for dinner.
And they both had a wonderful time.
Mary-Sue's LTW is to reach the top of the Oceanography career and finally it shows up on the computer.
Some mother-daughter bonding. Surely now Mary-Sue will agree to help Lili with her homework?
Lilith: Please?
Mary-Sue: Sorry kid, the lightbulb hat means mummy's busy skilling. Ask your father.
This time Daniel agreed. Yay!
Congratulations, Angie!
Angela: Go me! Can I buy myself something with the cash?
Sure! What do you want?
She wanted a birdcage, so meet Gigi the parrot.
Angela: Polly want a cracker? Polly want a cracker?
Gigi: Awk, pieces of eight!
Angela: Close enough.
Daniel's been rolling lots of skilling wants, so I've given him a knowledge secondary. He enjoys spending his evening learning how to cook and clean.
Aaaaand then Lilith brought home flu.
Lilith: *HAAAAAAACK*cough*cough*choke*wheeze*
I have realistic sickness, and didn't want to deal with four flu victims, so I locked her in her bedroom.
Which wasn't my best idea.
Lilith: :(
Sorry!
Money, money. money.
Despite keeping her off school all day to rest, Lilith wasn't getting any better and I was worried that she'd still be ill at the end of the week and go on to spread flu throughout the uberhood. So, time to test out the paramedics!
Lilith: Mmm, spicy!
OH FUCK YOU, FLU. (I called them back. The second cure was a success.)
Mary-Sue and Daniel avoided the flu by keeping themselves entertained in their bedroom.
Thanks to their fishing trip with their grandparents, the family already had some nice, filling sparklefish ready for this, and the girls got into private school easily.
Lilith's been spying on the neighbours, naughty naughty!
Mary-Sue's so happy with her job, she skips to work.
Go Mary-Sue!
Mary-Sue: Hey, sexy, I brought a car with my work bonus. Wanna help me break it in?
Daniel: Sounds good to me!
Mary-Sue and Daniel: *SLURP*
Lilith: Hey, mum, dad, I got- whoa never mind.
It was very difficult to resist the urge to dish out some payback, but I didn't want Lilith to lose her job. They can afford to lost the cash this time.
It's getting to the end of the week, so I had a little family get-together. Lucy and Auntie Mary-Sue are getting along swimmingly.
John: Yeah, no. There's really no point us getting a safe, we haven't got cash to put in it.
Dustin came home from school with Angela (even though he now goes to a totally different school) and ACR took over.
Then Inteen joined in. I let them make out, but diverted them afterwards. No woohoo until you roll the want for it! You should get aspiration points for your first time! Plus your parents had sex in that bed and haven't changed the sheets yet.
And then I caught Daniel reducing the poor boy to tears.
Daniel: You're not worthy to kiss my daughter's boots, let alone any other part of her.
Aw, Daniel, don't be a dickhead.
Daniel: NOT WORTHY.
We end on a high note; despite getting scammed, Lilith makes it to the top of Culinary. Congratulations, Lilith!

Like I said, usually when I play this family, I can't resist the drama and things go to shit very quickly, so it was a change to play them nicely. They had a day less playtime than the other households because they started on a Thursday instead of a Monday, so I'm shaving a day off each week until they're in sync. Despite that, there was no shortage of entertainment. They're still not a very close family, but I did manage to get all their short-term relationships above 0. I think I'll have to keep a close eye on them when playing other people though, don't want to undo all that work.
Next up, I'm playing the Roseland family. Another new one for me! I'm very much enjoying play all these sims I never touched before.
