I think Allan wrote his initial "A" sideways, to throw off anyone who might get suspicious. It only LOOKS like a "P".

About the letter thing. After a 'serious' discussion of a fan forum we came to the belief that it was a rune of some sort. But for this show it could've just be Allan's graffiti.

Exacrtly what I thought...in fact I found a few of the scenes seems to come accross as Dream Sequences in this episode!

Yup, me too. And if you read down, you can see why that episode gave me hope for a future Doctor Who/Torchwood/Robin Hood crossover.
