I adore her reminisces about playing with Shinichi. LOL. That gives such a cute mental image, as does chibi Ran chasing raindrops down the window while Kogoro scolds her.
Overall, this is a very well-written, powerful piece. The last two lines, I think, are my favorites. Very poignant!
BTW, thanks for your message. ^^ **hugs.** Just as a note, you may like the fic I put up Saturday. Akemi has quite a large role.

...and I agree with ladybug-chan. I love and adore Ran, and her loyalty is extremely admirable, but at the same time...the girl really needs to tell Shinichi what's what. Granted, not much he can really do about it, but GAWD! I was proud of her in movie eight for chewing his ass over the radio thing! ...which leads into the "I love you, Shinichi...hey look! Shiny things!" *froths at the mouth*
Also, your disclaimer wins the interwebs :D

Somehow, I'm sure Ran has an idea that Shin'ichi can't exactly come home and can't exactly tell her why. After all, she was so perceptive each time she suspected Conan's true identity: a drug must've made him small and he must be hiding out from bad guys. And despite the fact that she would almost love to believe Conan WAS Shin'ichi, that didn't stop her from preparing to chew him out the last time she suspected the truth. She doesn't want a "pillar" between them and was willing to tell him so.
Still, the nuances of their characters and where their friendship even came from are still, by and large, missing. Let's hope Aoyama gains some inspiration from his little dip back into MK!

I understand that...but that movie eight thing still alternates between making me crack up and annoying me. "I love you, Shinichi...lookit the shinies!!" FOCUS, WOMAN!!

And sadly, Sonoko's not much better. "Oh, Kid's bad and ditched us! Wait, so he was trying to help us? Ooh, I knew that hunka man wouldn't let us down!" (Alright, I threw in the "hunka man" part, but still!)

To be honest, that metaphor of barriers and being touched through them was unintentional. Maybe it's just one of those visceral things that spark in the writer's mind?
Thanks again! That's so sweet of you to say! *blushes*
