To my friends in non-swing states: VOTE! Vote Kerry!

I couldn't possibly disagree more. I prefer for Kerry to get the narrowest victory possible, so that he'll feel as much need as possible to listen to the people further left than him.

But the votes are not in the center; the votes are also among all the (mostly leftist) people who don't bother to vote at all, or who vote for third parties. It is irrational to imagine that the votes are only on one side. The ideal outcome to make Kerry not move any further right is for Bush to get as few votes as possible, but it is not for Kerry to get as many votes as possible. Rather, Bush voters need to be persuaded to vote for Kerry, but non-swing-state, unnecessary Kerry voters need to be persuaded to vote for someone further left. Otherwise, Kerry gets a mandate and I don't WANT Kerry to have ANY kind of mandate to remain in Iraq. I want it absolutely as clear as possible that milliona and millions of leftists are veyr unhappy with him and would never have voted for him unless absolutely necessary to get rid of an unusually horrid opponent.

How can we accomplish this "Kerry winning with the narrowest victory possible" without giving the election to Bush? :)
