One Saturday in October (the 15th, as it turns out), I decided to check out this torrent I had downloaded of the first ten Bleach episodes. By the following Tuesday, I had caught up with the entire anime series. I wrote my first 'fic within the week, and actually posted it a week after I'd first started watching. And basically...haven't looked

Yes! I definitely think that Rukia and Renji have kissed, just the way you describe it. I really like the description of Rukia's reaction to spotting Kaien and his wife; I like it even more that you mirrored the sentence structure later on. Bringing in Rukia's past and the promise about killing Ichigo if he loses his grip was very nice and it added a lot more depth to the story. I was a little breathless when Rukia explained her "no". Nice fic!

*grin* Thanks! The more I hang around fandom, the more I'm like, "I dunno about that kiss," but if they did, I can see it happening like that. And I'm glad you like the mirroring; I was much more of a bugger for slightly gimmicky structures at this point. But it worked, which is the important thing. :)
