ohh, that place irritates me so much with its 'if the animals' "time" runs out, too bad' policy.

i found you through a stroll through petfinder one day. i enjoy seeing all the pictures and reading the little stories in your moblog, and i admire and thank you so much for all that you do!!

i live in lafayette and wish that i could adopt one or two more cats who can be friends with my Inka, but i currently don't have the space/resources. I'm hoping that some time within the next few months i will be able to, though. (i have to get myself situated) :-)

here's my kitty's page

Yes, I am not found of their times up policy either. But, they are such a small facility, and Lafayette is such a large parrish. They only have 12 dog runs in their adoption row, and a small cat adoption room. Yet, they are currently taking in over 100 kittens a week, and probably even more in dogs and puppies. If only Lafayette would spay and neuter their pets! Roicy chooses the ones with the best personality, sweetest temperment, that will make the best pets and companions. The few who make it to adoption row really are the best of the best ( ... )

Thank you so much for spreading the word! Adoptions have been up at Roicy recently, so it is possible that your spreading the word is helping.

Sorry I did not respond sooner. I have been so busy with my animal rescue work, that I forget to check into LiveJournal.

i was just wondering how is a No-kill shelter able to be a no-kill shelter, and then how, if at all possible, can that be applied at roicy?? i'll do some research. .

The reason Roicy is a kill shelter. bluedove121 July 1 2006, 04:16:28 UTC
Kill shelters are open to the public. They can not turn animals away. They are usually run by parishes or municipalities for the "benefit" of the residents, not the animals, and are funded by our tax dollars. No-Kill shelters are limited in their intakes. If they are full, they can turn animals away, whereas the kill shelters kill them to make space. So there's only one way that Roicy can become No-Kill. But, then we must ask, What will happen to the ones that are turned away?

One of the biggest ways to help, is to educate the public about the importance and spaying and neutering. Most of the animals turned into Roicy are kittens and puppies that were born to unaltered pets. As well as an enourmous amount of puppies and kittens born to all of the unaltered Katrina and Rita pets who are now living in the Lafayette area. This has been the largest year yet for the number of unwanted puppies and kittens coming into Roicy.

Welcome to my LJ! Thank you for taking the time to comment. I have checked out your LJ and see that we have a lot in common with the animal rescue. I've added you to my friends list as well. I post her sporadically, as my time is limited. But, because it is faster, I tend to post more regularly on my moblog: http://mycatranch.textamerica.com You can see pictures and short stories about my animal work there. Thanks!
