I am still perplexed by how much is happening because of Chuck writing it and how much is free will--like the werewolf brothers--could that have gone down any differently? Or were they only puppets doing what was written?

Good question. I've been wondering the same thing.
Is Chuck controlling everything? Is there still free will?

I find this whole God arc incredibly depressing. As I noted on another review, it makes all of Season 5 lose its meaning and the results unimportant.

Maybe, but the lives the boys saved are still significant no matter what is happening now. They've made a difference. I think that's what the season will come down to.
