Really nice story! I'm sorry but the part with the coffee was funny (like from a movie) even if it's a pity that they didn't try to speak proper German to you. Sometimes the language barrier is larger than we think, right? I sometimes try to order something in Japanese when I'm in a Japanese restaurant but they never seem to understand me (although I'm pretty confident in my pronounciation XD) so I end up ordering in German, which they strangely understand perfectly even if they don't speak it perfectly lol.

If you ever need some help with German, let me know! ^^v

One theory is maybe that waitress was an international student, because her English sounds like American English to me xDD.
It really lowers my self esteem though xDDD. But then again I never practiced the language, it's no wonder ne :D.
Whoa, you had that kind of experience too? XDD. Where did that happen?
I have 1 question: is giving money to grandchildren a common habit in German? XD. The couple I visited gave me and my sister money (€50 each person) before we got back, and they always inserted some amount of money in their letter too. I feel really bad to accept it :'(
