One Cup of Hot Chocolate, Please?

My friend asked me to teach her how to pronunciate some German words. Since I've learned German at school and had a course once, I'm able to read it out. But when she asked the meaning of it, I just grinned and said that I dont know xD.

She's in a choir club in my campus, and she's practicing this one song alled "An die Musik".

I remember my experience of visiting Germany on March 2007. I was on my Euro Trip with my sister (basically staying for a few days in Rome, visiting Vatican, Pompeii, and Bräunlingen in Germany).

When I was in Italy, I spoke in English. And when I went to Germany to visit my mom's penpal’s parents (how should I explain this? My mother had a penpal from Germany when she was a teenager, but her penpal died, and she continued writing to his parents), I tried to speak in German but I totally failed xDD.

We arrived at Stuttgart via train from Rome. We had to wait for Herr Friedhelm and Frau Helga (my mom's penpal's parents name) to pick us up in the train station. We went to a cafe, and since it was really cold (opinion of a Southeast Asian girl who never experience living in a place with a temperature lower than 24°C) we decided to order some hot drinks.

I went to the counter and ordered 1 cup of hot chocolate, and 1 cup of hot coffee. I tried to speak in German. The waitress looked at me with a confused expression on her face. She asked "what?" And I repeated what I said earlier. Repeat that cycle for around 3 times.

I gave up and finally said that in English. The waitress laughed and shee answered "a moment please" IN ENGLISH. Damn, what's the point of learning German at all xDDD.

I experienced that too when I visited other stores in the train station. I bought some chocolate Easter Eggs by Milka (so freakingly delicious), and some super huge Milka chocolate bars. Until finally Herr Friedhelm and Frau Helga arrived and took us to their house in Bräunlingen.

And thanks to my "excellent" German, I managed to create a misunderstanding between us. Friedhelm and Helga tought that me and my sister will stay for few days there, but actually we were just visiting them for 1 day. They already bought so many breads and other foods, yet we only managed to eat them for lunch and dinner. I felt really sorry for them :(.

I decided not to speak in German when I was with Friedhelm and Helga. Good news is, Friedhelm can speak in English, so he translated all the conversation to Helga and us.

Since we were staying for such a short time only, they hurriedly took us to one local tourism area; Clock Museum. Thankfully, the guide can speak in English too, so my magical German won't be needed anymore xD. And thank God, the rest of the day went smoothly. Me and my sister went back to Rome without any problem xD.

Ah, I miss Friedhelm and Helga.. They are a really nice couple. I really want to send them Christmas cards etc, but I fear that they will send me some money in the reply, like they did few times ago. I always said that it's not needed, but they never listened xD. I tried calling them at Christmas too, but since the only person who can speak English is Friedhelm, I feel really bad for not being able to speak with Helga too :'(.

Should I practice my German again then? XDDD.
