Over a year ago I wrote a selection at work about the shamisen. When it got to copyediting, it hit a snag. Apparently "shamisen" is not in the dictionary. Instead, it's spelled "samisen." That is AWESOME!! So, do you get to put that on your resume? "Pointed out to Webster that they had a word misspelled...and won the argument."

I think you should get a promotion based on that alone.

F YEAH! Freakin awesome. Crazy spellings of Japanese words in English just piss me off. Makes looking up things so much harder when they refuse to spell things correctly. I actually have a fairly old book about Japanese cherry blossoms which includes some pretty imaginative spellings of words, and includes a chart of how to change Japanese words into English. Needless to say, it's pretty damned confusing.
